We continue with three more players that easily could be
available when the Mets pick in the first round of the 2027 draft.
Chase Fralick, C/1B,
Auburn
21/yrs. old – 6-2/230 - LHH
2026 – 20-HR, 61-RBI, .314/.420/.649/1.069
Offense wise, increased his homer output from 4-HR in 2025
to 20 last year. Slightly open stance. Controlled leg kick with balance. Above
average bat-to-ball skills. Feel for the barrel. Excellent pitch selection. Swings at right
pitches. Raw power and bat speed grew in 2026. Strong wrists with real bat
speed.
Defense wise, strong big-bodied backstop. Defense remains a
question mark, but it improved last season. His framing metrics are a tad
underwhelming. Faces questions regarding athleticism. Raw arm strength. Could
wind up a first baseman.
Me?
I really want nothing to do with another catcher with defensive issues. Sure, this guy can hit, but I'm not going to waste one of my first picks on a one-dimensional player. Pass.
Grant Westphal, OF, Blue
Valley HS (Kan.)
6-2/205 – LHH
Potential 5-tool player
Offense wise, high-exit velocities. Loud contact. Sets up
slightly spread. Waggles hands before loading. Turns quick and creates flatter
path. Has added muscle, thus, added power. High contact rate. Tons of doubles.
Projects as an above-average hit tool at next level. Exit velocity +107. High OPS.
Defense wise, should stick in center. Plus runner in
outfield. Average arm strength.
Me?
Again, do I use one of my first picks on someone that has limited ability. There is very little power here. May come, but I thought May was a month after April. Pass.
Aidan King, RHP, Florida
20/years old – 6-2/205
2026 - 16-ST, 8-2, 3.21, 1.03, 87.0-IP, 19-BB,
92-K
Two excellent seasons in a row, pitching to college’s best.
Fastball already up to 97, with carry. He adds to this a high-spin
slider (late bite) and effective 85-changeup. The 3-pitch mix is already
developed. All three grade out above average. Fastball consistently fills zone.
Expect the team that drafts him to add a fourth pitch here.
Excellent delivery. Moves well down the mound with quick,
whippy arm. Repeats delivery well. Starts to lose a little control when he
tries to pitch with increased velo.
Great, young arm for someone.
Me?
King is on a short list of college starters that I would consider picking in the first round. Yes, there are more talented pitchers this draft than him, but we still have no idea when the Mets will pick.
If it's 1.10 and below, pick this guy.
