5-11-14  -  Bobby Bradley, 1B/OF, Harrison Central HS (MS) - Bradley hasn’t gotten a lot to swing at this season. When he has, however, he has taken advantage of it, displaying the huge power potential from his 6’-2”, 225 pound frame. Over 22 games, he has drawn 29 walks to eight strikeouts and has hit six home runs. He is hitting .340/.598/.880. He has a patient approach and his quick wrists allow him to wait on his pitch and drive it to all fields. He is attempting to play behind the plate this season but most feel he is likely a first baseman at the next level where the pressure will be on his bat. 3-29-14 - Luke Weaver — RHP Florida State — If I had to guess one place that wasn’t raining this weekend, Rhode Island would not be one of them but here we have Florida State and Boston College playing a gosh darned full baseball game in Kingston, Rhode Island. Pitching in said game was one Luke Weaver, who hurled a one-hit, complete game shutout against the Eagles. Weaver struck out just four and walked two but was incredibly efficient, needing just 105 pitches to complete his shutout. 3-18-14 – Jonathan Mayo - 3-18-14 – Jonathan Mayo - Colorado high school lefty David Peterson is hoping to be back on the mound at some point pre-Draft. The nearly 6-foot-7 southpaw from Regis High School suffered a broken fibula in his right leg and had surgery to put in a stainless-steel plate and nine screws two weeks ago. Peterson is currently in a boot and is only restricted by what he can tolerate, pain-wise. 3-24-14 - While some of the top college pitchers struggled Friday night, one shone on Saturday. Hartford began its weekend series against Binghamton with a Saturday doubleheader, pushing ace Sean Newcomb's start back a day. Newcomb, ranked No. 17 on MLB.com's top 50 Draft prospects, pitched well in a 3-0 victory. In eight scoreless innings, he struck out seven batters and allowed four hits and three walks. Five starts into the season, he has yet to give up an earned run, and he has 38 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings. Pitching at Hartford in the America East Conference, Newcomb doesn't face the same level of competition as some of the other top college pitchers. Regardless of his opponents, the big left-hander's stuff stacks up well with anyone in the country. He throws his fastball in the low- to mid-90s, and he mixes in a biting slider, curveball and changeup. 1-20-14 – PG Preseason College All-Americans - Starting Pitcher - Carlos Rodon, NC State - 2013 Stats: 2.99 ERA, 132 1/3 IP, 184 K, 45 BB, .200 OPP BA - It really doesn’t get any better than Rodon in college baseball. Rodon has a physical frame at 6-foot-3, 234 pounds, and is incredibly difficult to hit, especially when he has the slider working from the left side. Rodon has a fastball into the mid-90s, a solid slider in the mid- to upper-80s, and a low-80s changeup that continues to develop. 12-9-13 – Pine Tar Press  -  16- OF/LHP Alex Verdugo Sahuaro HS (Arizona State Commit) 5/15/96- Word is you are not getting Verdugo as a pitcher in this draft as he loves to hit. That being said, he is the best hitter in this draft at the HS level. He never has a cheap AB and certainly seems to be a student of the excellent CD by Steve Springer on Quality At Bats. He is more of a line drive guy at this point and that is fine because he has one of those qualities where he seems to catch the ball and spin it where he wants. 8-27-13 - 1. Carlos Rodon, LHP, North Carolina State (Draft eligible: 2014)  -  The exceptional 6-foot-3, 234-pound, junior left-handed pitcher has had quite a whirlwind past few months. Rodon entered his sophomore campaign with the Wolfpack with high hopes in the spring, but it took him a while to get going, as evidenced by some early command issues. Rodon only got better as the spring progressed, pitching exceptionally well down the stretch and in the College World Series with a fastball anywhere from 93-97 in Omaha.   Well, Rodon only continued his impressive ways this summer while pitching for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team. Rodon didn’t allow a run in four starts and 17 innings of work, while also striking out 21 and walking four. From a prospect standpoint, Rodon is the clear-cut favorite to be the top pick in the 2014 MLB draft. In addition to having a durable frame, Rodon possesses a hard-nosed, come at you type of attitude, along with elite stuff. He pitched off his fastball quite a bit this summer, a pitch that has some late, exploding life on it at times. Rodon also utilized an 85-87 slider with two-plane break, while that pitch also was up to 89 at times. Last but not least, Rodon used a low-80s changeup, a pitch that many would like him to use more in the latter innings come spring. Overall, Rodon’s near impeccable fastball command reminded some close to USA Baseball to former Vanderbilt start left-handed pitcher David Price, while he showed much more confidence in his slider as the summer progressed.   Rodon’s freshman campaign in 2012 convinced many of us that he was clearly the top prospect in the 2014 MLB draft college class. Then, we had a second thought when he started slow out of the gate for the Wolfpack in the spring. Foster Griffin, LHP, The First Academy (FL) - At 6’-5” and 190 pounds, the southpaw has a lot of projection and already has a great feel for pitching. He has shown a patient approach at the plate, driving the ball to all fields, and his size suggests more power will come. 8-10-13 - New Balance Area Code games - For the Brewers, left-hander Quinn Brody (CA) got the start. He isn’t the biggest, most projectable arm but he had an easy delivery that he repeated well with a smooth arm action. The left-handers fastball sat 87-89 MPH and had solid plane.
