Bryan Berglund -
Royal HS… 6-4, 185… committed to Loyola Marymount… excellent slider, 80-82, sharp break… 5/28 from MiLB: He doesn't get the same kind of buzz some of the other California high school arms do, but that doesn't mean he should be ignored. Just ask those at Simi Valley High school, like Jonathan Meyer. In a mid-May start against them, Berglund tossed six shutout innings, allowing two hits along the way. He had a 1.58 ERA and .191 batting average against over the course of his senior season
Fr. http://www.baseballbeginnings.com/: To the main event. Here is footage of Royal HS right-hander Bryan Berglund. This was a good week for scouting pitchers here in Southern California. There were a lot of national-level guys in town to see the parade that included Tyler Skaggs, Tyler Matzek, Matt Hobgood and finally Berglund Friday afternoon. All four of these pitchers are going to go, as they say in the business, and they are going to go good. Berglund’s footage was shot in the third, fourth and fifth innings. He was at his best in the first inning, but I couldn’t film it because I needed to watch his stuff and the guns to file the report after the game and write the forthcoming scouting report. You still get a glimpse of Berglund’s fast arm and power potential here, along with a few sliders and change-ups, from various angles. The last few pitches of the tape, the fifth inning, is Berglund on fumes with his left hamstring bothering him. He missed a start two weeks ago and was making his first start at what he hoped was 100 percent. He said after this start that he felt at 85 percent at his best. Perhaps we’ll update his video file as he gets completly healthy and the draft nears
Fr. http://www.churchofbaseball.com/ : 6'4", 195 lbs. This California H.S. product has been getting scouts' attention this spring for his polish on the mound and his projectable frame. Bryan's fastball sits from 90-92, but it is his secondary stuff that has him ranked in the higher rounds of day one draft boards. While some scouts are thoroughly impressed with his slider, believing it could be an above-average to plus pitch, it is his changeup that is most impressive. Berglund's changeup does what scouts want to see, especially out of a prep arm- it has good depth, and deceives hitters well. Bryan's velocity does not stay long into games, but many scouts will ignore this and look more at the potential of his 6 foot 4 frame.
