Chris Young (quad) played in an extended
spring training game Thursday. Young landed on the disabled list after straining
his right quad on Opening Day, but he's getting closer to making his return. He
could be ready to begin an official minor league rehab assignment on Friday,
setting up a potential return late next week.[i]
So the question is… Eric Young is making things happen as the leadoff hitter,
Juan Lagares is
hitting over .300, and Curtis Granderson is doing absolutely nothing. You tell me who to sit.

some #MLBDraft buzz out of NorCal on Jacob Gatewood.
9-for-12 this week, scout I talked to said the hit tool has shown improvement
A nicer one on Darin
Gorski[iii] One thing on
Gorski… he is getting a little long in the tooth and repeating AA makes
producing these stats a whole lot easier (that’s two things). Still, he’s the
top lefty starter in the system wedged in between the MLB Jon Niese and the A+ Steven Matz. This alone could
push him past guys like Jake deGrom or be a major chip in a trade package.
Trade packages. Remember trade packages?
I thought this would be a good time to look at each of the four
minor league leagues and see which one of our players are in the leaders in certain
categories. These are the guys that make the all-star teams and usually are the
first ones moved up to the next level.
AAA
– Las Vegas:
BA:
RF Bobby Abreu - .526 – 1st in
league
OBP:
RF Bobby Abreu - .591 – 2nd in
league
Slug: RF Bobby
Abreu - .694 – 15th in league
OPS – 3B Bobby
Abreu – 1.275 – 6th in league
ERA – SP Jake
deGrom – 0.82 – 7th in
league
WHIP – SP Jake
deGrom – 0.91 – 13th in league
K – SP Rafael
Montero - 14 – 4th in
league
It’s
very interesting how Abreu is eating up AAA pitching, but isn’t that what an
old all-star is supposed to be able to do. There’s no hope for the Mets for him
to be added to the Queens outfield. At this point, he runs at the same speed as
Bartolo Colon and he would not be
able to cover either of the corner outfields. What he is proving is that he
could easily be a mid-season addition to an American League team looking for a
designated hitter.
AA
– Binghamton:
BA: OF Darrell
Ceciliani - .400 – 7th in league
OBP: OF Darrell
Ceciliani – .429 – 14th in league
Slug:
OF Darrell Ceciliani – .650 – 5th
in league
OPS:
OF Darrell Ceciliani – 1.079 – 4th in league
ERA:
SP Darin Gorski – 0.93 – 10th
in league
WHIP: SP Darin
Gorski – 1.34 – 28th in league
K:
SP Darin Gorski – 12 – 3rd in
league
Ceciliani
(24-yrs) and Gorski (26-yrs) are repeating Binghamton due to the log jam in Las
Vegas. Gorski is actually pitching his third year there. Both these guys are,
at least, really AAA players. In addition, both are past the prospect age
requirement so it is time to elevate and produce. There really is no place for
either of these guys to go, but Gorski could find himself winding up in the
Mets pen if the lefty situation there doesn’t improve (Scott Rice: 18.00 John Lannan: 36.00) pretty
quickly.
A+
- St. Lucie:
BA:
1B-3B Jairo Perez - .429 – 5th
in league
OBP:
CF Brandon Nimmo – .516 – 4th
in league
Slug:
2B T.J. Rivera – .636 – 6th in
league
OPS – CF Brandon
Nimmo – 1.081 – 7th in league
ERA:
SP Gabriel Ynoa – 2.38 – 18th
in league
WHIP:
SP Gabriel Ynoa – 1.32 – 24th
in league
K – RP Randy
Fontanez – 6 – 24th in league
The
wild card here is the 26-yr. old Perez, who was picked off the garbage pile in
the American Association (2013: KC - .309, 19-HR, 72-RBI). This is one of those
famous Sandy-picks that result in a decent chance for a future major league
find at the minimum cost (not to be confused with the Granderson deal). He’s a
third baseman, that has played a little second, and is being converted to
first.
A
– Savannah:
BA:
OF Stefan Sabol - .438 – 2nd
in league
OBP:
OF Stefan Sabol - .550 – 1st
in league
Slug:
OF Stefan Sabol - .938 – 1st
in league
OPS:
OF Stefan Sabol - 1.488 – 1st in league
ERA:
SP John Gant – 1.50 – 13th in
league
WHIP:
SP John Gant – 1.00 – 15th in
league
K – RP Akeel
Morris – 11 – 8th in league
The
23-yr. old Sabol was a 17th round pick in 2012 who had a miserable
(.203) season last year for Savannah. He’s far too old to be playing at this
level (as is Jared King, the guy following right behind him as a league stat leader),
but let him enjoy all this league leading shit for a while.
Also…
it’s extremely hard to find a relief pitcher being ranked in the top ten
strikeout producers in any league. That’s how well Morris is
producing right now.
We’ll do this again at the end of the month and see who’s making
the biggest waves in each of the leagues.

Comment From Sonny
Gray Real Estate - I have two of Eric Young Jr.,
Rajai Davis, and Jonathon Villar occupying my bench. Which one would you
recomment dropping for a pitcher on the waiver wire? It’s a 12 team league and
I could use more quality starts…
Eno Sarris:
Lagares is killing it, and RD should get more PA than EY when the other Young
is back…

I guess, at this point, it is what it is........
Management seems absolutely confused about what to do at 1B.....
However, they've decided to let Tejada and Granderson play every single day, and let them sink or swim.
My guess is: sink.
I just wish to avoid a payroll albatross they'd have signed Byrd, not Grandy.
