The Binghamton Mets blew a pair of leads, including a seven-run advantage, before eventually defeating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9-8, in 14 innings on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Matt Reynolds’ go-ahead single in the 14th, his fourth hit of the game, pushed Binghamton to their fifth straight win and a three-game series sweep.
With the game knotted at eight in the final frame, Kyle Johnson ripped a one-out double down the left-field line off reliever Tony Davis. Brian Burgamy kept the pressure up by bouncing a single to left. Reynolds gave the B-Mets the lead by shooting a single through the hole on the right ride, plating Johnson with the go-ahead run. John Church tossed a perfect inning to lock down the victory.
Through the first five innings, the game appeared to be a Sunday stroll for the B-Mets. Wilfredo Tovar put the B-Mets on the board in the second with an RBI single, bringing home Cory Vaughn after his leadoff double. Binghamton tacked on with four more in the third highlighted by a two-run homer by Darrell Ceciliani, his first round-trip of the season.
Given some long-awaited offensive support, B-Mets starter Tyler Pill cruised through five shutout innings. Facing the Fisher Cats for the third time this season, he scattered four singles and struck out six along the way
Owning a comfortable seven-run lead, trouble started to brew for the B-Mets in the sixth. Pill allowed a single and a walk to start the inning before Gabe Jacobo put New Hampshire on the board with a single to left. Two batters later Kevin Nolan ended Pill’s day with a sac fly to center.
TJ Chism took over and got the final out of the sixth, but failed to get another in the seventh. The first five batters of the inning all reached against the southpaw. After walking in a run and hitting another batter with the bases loaded, Chism gave way to Jon Velasquez. Jacobo greeted the righty by stroking a three-run double to the right-field alley, tying the game at seven.
Binghamton responded quickly in the eighth against reliever Scott Gracey. Burgamy singled to right, took second on a walk and came home when Matt Newman could not make a sliding catch on Plawecki’s sinking liner to right.
The B-Mets’ one-run lead, like their seven-run lead before it, failed to stick. Jon Jones started the eighth inning with a double off reliever Jack Leathersich. Jon Berti pushed him to third with a bunt single and Andy Burns brought him home with sac fly to right.
After the flurry of offense, the contest quieted and churned into extras. Chasen Bradford kept the Fisher Cats off the board in the 10th and 11th. Adam Kolarek stranded a runner at third in the 12th and another at second in the 13th.
Gracey capped three innings of work with a scoreless 9th and 10th, while Randy Boone tossed two more shutout frames, stranding two. Davis left two more on in a scoreless 13th, before surrendering Reynolds’ hit in the 14th.
Kolarek (1-0) struck out two to earn his first win of the season. Davis (1-1) suffered the loss. Pill fanned six over 5-2/3 innings in the no-decision. Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence was tagged for seven runs on 11 hits in 5-2/3 innings of work.

Kevin Plawecki loves May...22 for 53 this month, a robust .415. Just one walk and 4 K's since April...."you're not getting me out of the batter's box without me making contact, bro'. I don't care WHAT those guys at Citifield do! They can strike out all they want." Kidding aside, his arrival at Citi is accelerating... all bats on deck.
