Lakeland 3 - St. Lucie 2
Lance Durham drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the eighth inning as the Lakeland Flying Tigers edged the St. Lucie Mets 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium.
With Chad Wright at second base and two outs, Durhman lined a pitch from Paul Sewald to left field. Maikis De La Cruz initially broke in, but the ball was hit deep and by the time De La Cruz recovered it went just over his glove and to the wall to score the tie-breaking run.
Angel Nesbitt struck out two in a perfect ninth to record his seventh save and end the Mets’ four-game road winning streak.
Jade Todd retired all five batters he faced in relief to earn the win. Todd inherited runners at the corners with one out in the seventh in a 2-2 game. He struck out Brandon Nimmo and got T.J. Rivera to ground out to preserve the tie.
Gabriel Ynoa made his best start of the season for the Mets. He pitched a season-high seven innings and struck out five. He gave up seven hits and two runs, both earned, in the no decision.
Kevin Eichhorn pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Flying Tigers. He allowed two runs on eight hits in a no decision.
The Flying Tigers got on the board first in the third inning. Wright, Curt Powell and Jeff McVaney all singled off of Ynoa with two outs. McVaney’s hit scored Wright to make it 1-0.
Dilson Herrera tied the game 1-1 in the fourth with a leadoff home run, his second of the year. Eudy Pina gave the Mets a brief 2-1 lead with a two-out RBI single later in the frame.
The Flying Tigers tied the game 2-2 fifth. McVaney lined a 3-2 pitch from Ynoa off the wall in left that scored Tyler Hanover. Drew Longley tried to score from first on the play, but the relay throw from De La Cruz and Phillip Evans was in time to catcher Albert Cordero, who tagged out Longley at the plate to end the inning.
Herrera and Nimmo had two hits apiece for the Mets.
McVaney went 3 for 4 with two RBIs for the Flying Tigers. - team press release
