AAA rival scout on Wilmer Flores -

"The focus shouldn't be whether or not he can play shortstop. We all know that answer. The focus should be on how much he has to hit to cover up his defensive flaws. He was struggling some. I don't care what his average says. Against better pitching, he wasn't exactly lighting it up. With good pitching, he's going to struggle. I don't know if he's a 10- home run guy right now.

Opponent talent evaluator on Mets -

"They really have no infielders.''

Ben Badler –

Mets the favorites for Wilkerman Garcia. 5'11 170, switch hitter better from the left side, mature approach, not a ton of power at this time, bat gets love, position on the other hand is up for debate, not a great runner, above average arm, some see him as a 3b, laid back, should get more than 1 million

Eno-Chat –

Comment From john - Glad to see the mets finally playing baseball the way we all expected. That is all

Eno Sarris: Wilmer Flores up to butcher the shortstop position!

Comment From john - You guys love Duda. So does the Mets FO, which is why they chose him. Why does TC insist on babying him. He is your first baseman, he has power. Bat him 4th. Or, do they realize you don’t want a guy to bat with runners on who would rather take a walk?

Eno Sarris: If you mean “FanGraphs writers” as us, no I don’t think anyone else joins in my Duda love. If you mean “people in this chat” as us, then I think it’s a cult thing. As for babying him.. well, he’s just a big baby man.

Comment From Sandy Alderson - What’s your expectation for Wilmer Flores?

Eno Sarris: Bad defense, little power, empty batting average.

(that's funny... first game back, has 2 hits in firs 4 at-bats buts strands 6 batters... that's what an empty battinf average is)

Comment From Benji - Do you think Mejia stays in the rotation? I just made a Jose REyes and Mejia for Iwakuma and Simmons trade but didnt know that about MEJIA

Eno Sarris: I think so, there’s some drum-beat for him as a closer but I think they need to try and squeeze the most innings out of him as possible and I love his stuff.

Comment From JDagg - Any chance we see an upside surprise from

Chris Young this year? He is batting in the middle of the Mets lineup now

Eno Sarris: The plate discipline stats are a surprise. He could be, actually.

John Looby asked -

Hey Mack, I was interested in your thoughts on a few matters.
TJ Rivera can't stop hitting in high A. Do you think there is any MLB potential there or is he destined to max out at AA/AAA?

Mack – Hey John. I wish I could attend every game at every level, and had the expertise to answer questions like this one. The good news is this is why we have coaches, evaluators, and scouts, both for the teams we root for but also the opponents. Trust me, you get better information from people outside this system than from within.

Rivera is like so many before him. He can hit well if he plays every day at levels he should be long past. Frankly, there is nothing special about a 25-year old playing A+ ball.

I expect him to eventually settle into Las Vegas someday as a AAAA player.

There has been a lot of talk of the 3 headed monster that will be Harvey/Wheeler/Syndergaard. Harvey is obviously a legit MLB ace, whilst Syndergaard has yet to reach the bigs. Do you think that Wheeler has legitimate top of the rotation potential given the high pitch counts he gets himself in? His stuff is electric, however he seems to crack the 100 pitch count after 6. You really need your 1 & 2 starters to be clearing 7 and getting into 8.

I have no doubt in Wheeler, though he may turn out to be an SP3 behind Harvey and Syndergaard (SP4 when Matz comes up). He’s made some great strides in his past two outings and I expect, when all is said and done, that he will finish this season with an ERA below 4.00.

What's up with Cesar Puello? I've seen he's gone onto the inactive list is he injured?

No, he had to go home for ‘personal reasons’. He was back in the lineup on Friday night.

Collette-Chat –

Comment From Max - Will Wilmer Florer succeed?

Jason Collette: I don’t think he’ll be, no.

Hi, Mack, after tonight's game, the 2 AA SS's are hitting well over .300, and only 1 can be the SS at Bingo. Matt Reynolds, the current regular there, is at .339, while Wilfredo Tovar is playing 2B and hitting .349. Right now, Danny Muno isn't hitting much, even in hitters' paradise (aka Vegas). It looks like it's time to promote one of the AA guys and return Muno to utility. Do you think that'll happen, or will they bring back Q and give him his old job?

First of all, I working way ahead so this will print out on Sunday morning and a lot can happen between now and then (who am I kidding… nothing happens fast out of the Mets camp.

Forget some of these names. Your targeted first and second tier SS prospcts are Reynolds, Evans, Cecchini, and Rosario (who is still back in extended camp). The rest are steak knives.

Once again, movement between levels does not happen until the all-star breaks… unless there is any injury. We still have no official word on the Cecchini ankle so we have to wait that one out.

My quess is Q is history and Tovar is old news. Flores’ emergency replacement has now become Ruben Tejada and my guess is, if the Cecchini injury is a ticky-takey one, Reynolds, Evans, Gavin, and Rosario will all get a bum in early June.

Now watch none of this to happen.

Why so down on Tovar, Mack? He's still 22 and tearing up the EL.

Bill, I'm really not down on Tovar. He just isn't on my radar.
