The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets played a double header Thursday at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won the first game 3-2 and and won the second game 6-0, as both Sand Gnat starters pitched complete games.
The Sand Gnats won the first game 3-2 in 8 innings. Robert Gsellman, won and now is 4-3, pitched 8 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4.
Augusta scored a run in the 3rd inning when Ryan Tuntland,dh walked and advanced to second on a hit batter, went to third on a fielders choice and scored on single by Ryder Jones,3b. The second run for Augusta was scored on a solo home run by Tyler Horan,rf in the 4th inning, his 6th homer of the year.
In the 4th inning, Savannah scored their first run. Gavin Cecchini,ss led off the inning with a triple, and scored on a single by Jeff McNeil,3b. Cecchini led off the 6th inning with a double and would later score the second run. In the 8th inning.L.J. Mazzilli,2b walked and advanced to second on a single by Dominic Smith,1b. Jon Leroux,dh drove in the winning run with a hit.
In the second game of the double header, John Gant was stellar pitching a complete game shutout, pitching 7 innings, no runs, 6 hits, 1 BB and struck out 5. With the win, Gant improved his record to 7-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.12 which leads the league.
Savannah scored two runs in the first inning. Patrick Biondi,lf singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and stole third base. A single by Mazzilli scored Biondi. Leroux drove in Mazzilli with a single. Savannah added a run in the 3rd inning, a run in the 4th inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning.
The announced attendance was 2,303.
Game three of the series starts at 7:05 pm Friday at Grayson Stadium.
