2015 Draft Profile - RHP - Kyle Cody - Kentucky - UPDATED 6-30-14

6-30-14 – Through The Fence – Early College Prospects - 16. Kyle Cody, RHP, Kentucky - At 6’-7” and 245 pounds, Cody is an intimidating figure on the mound and he can touch 97 mph with his fastball. He adds a 78-82 mph slider and shows a good feel for a change-up but his secondary stuff still needs some refining. His raw stuff, live arm and size make for some serious upside. As a freshman, he had 47 K/20 BB over 57.2 innings. This year, as a spot starter/reliever, he had a 2.84 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 20 K/13 BB over 38 innings, showing improved command of his stuff. With continued work on his secondary stuff, he should be a huge name next year. http://throughthefencebaseball.com/2015-mlb-draft-early-30-college-prospects/43327

Outlook
One of the top pitching talents in college baseball ... Has the ability to be another first-round pitching arm in a line of Kentucky pitching stars ... Has great control of his 6-foot-7 frame, adding 15 pounds of muscle since arriving on campus last year ... Draws instant comparisons to former UK star Alex Meyer due to his flame-throwing right-handed arm and stature ... Has better control of his body then Meyer at the same stage ... Has a high velocity fastball and an above-average breaking ball ... Had two starts in the Cape Cod League this summer, including one dominating one, before leaving with minor injury and working on adding strength during the rest of the summer ... Shined in a starting role in midweek action as a freshman, before solidifying himself as UK's most consistent starter in SEC action over the last third of the year ... Dominated in quality starts vs. No. 9 Louisville, No. 14 Arkansas and No. 1 Vanderbilt.
Summer
Pitched in two games in the Cape Cod League for the Wareham Gateman, before returning home with a minor injury ... Pitched nine innings in his two starts, allowing seven hits and five earned runs, walking four and striking out nine with a 5.00 ERA and a 1-1 record ... Dominated in his Cape Cod League debut, working six shutout, two-hit innings, walking two and striking out four in a win ... Second start ended his summer, taking a loss in three innings, allowing five hits and five runs, walking two and striking out five. http://www.ukathletics.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/kyle_cody_833992.html

6-4 - The 6-7, 245 pound Kentucky RHP Kyle Cody literally stands above his competition. He's still basically a one pitch pitcher (secondary pitchers need work) which does set him up to be a future bullpen pitcher, but, for now

Aaron Fitt of Perfect Game reported on May 21st that Cody was 'sitting at 91-94' in the first inning and was up to 95 with a big breaking curveball, 74-75. He also noted that he had saw much better stuff when he had seen him earlier.

2014 stat line through 6-4:  18-G, 6-starts, 4-0, 2.84, 38.0-IP, 20-K, 13-BB
