Thursday night Stephen Strasburg struck out 8 in 7 innings
and Adam LaRoche and Bryce Harper each hit 2 run homers, the Nats sweep the
Mets with a 4-1 win. Dillon Gee started
for the Mets and wasn’t sharp. In the top of the first LaRoche connected for
his 17th homer scoring Asdrubal Cabrera and it was 2-0. In the 4th Harper hit his 6th
on the year and 3rd of the week off Met pitching to make it
4-0. Gee went 6, allowing 4 runs (all
earned) on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4, Strasburg went 7
allowing 3 hits 1 run (unearned) walking 1 and striking out 8. The only run the
Mets managed came home in the bottom of the 4th on a sac-fly by
Lucas Duda. Gee takes the loss falling
to 4-5, Strasburg improves to 9-10, Rafael Soriano notched his 28th
save. The Mets only squeaked out the
three hits on the night, David Wright did extend his hitting streak to 13
games. The Nats have won 11 straight at
Citi Filed from the Mets and 10 of 12 in 2014. The Mets fall to 10.5 games off
the pace in the NL east and are now 57-65 on the year and 28-30 at home. Next
up , the new look Cubs come to town for a 3 game weekend series. Friday night
Zach Wheeler (7-8 3.53) goes for the
Mets, Travis Wood (7-9 4.86) goes for the Cubs.
