A Message From Mack

As we all know by now, the baseball world has been turned upside down. We have no idea when this nightmare will come to an end and in what form it will return.

I went shopping with Mrs. Mack this morning to WalMart to stock up on food and supplies. It was like trying to get on the last helicopter on top of the US Embassy in Saigon.

We at Mack’s Mets will continue to put out the most comprehensive Mets information that can be accumulated.

We will all have more ‘down time’ due to this illness, which will add to the time you spend online.

Please visit us often and join in the comments section here with whatever subject you want to discuss.

Hang in there folks. Our favorite team will return.

Stay safe, folks. Wash your hands and your Mets’ jerseys. Avoid the people, in my opinion, who think this is overblown, don’t buy the social distancing advice, and then don’t bother to ask if you want to socially distance.

My wife and I went to a sparsely attended Long Island local concert last night...about 35 people where it sits 200. She wanted to go, I didn’t, but I kept her company, cautiously.

Easy to socially distance with that ratio. We sit in second row. Three idiots just before it started plop down right behind us. I move to back, no one near me.

About 10 minutes later, I turn around and yes, some woman slipped in and is now sitting right behind me. Plenty of other seats, but right behind me. I immediately get up and move up a row. Two minutes later, I hear her sneeze and sniffle. She could be totally fine, but these days, who knows.

Pissed, I went out to the car until it was over.

People often are idiots. You are your #1 priority. Just move away from idiots.

Tom -

Mrs. Mack and I decided after that trip to WalMart to completely shut down.

I am 73 years old, have a heart condition, and diabetes type 2. I am ground zero for this.

Mrs. Mack is going through cancer treatment at 70 years old.

I successfully jumped the gun on this 3 weeks ago and stocked up on paper and cleaning goods. My wife and daughter thought I was nuts. They don't now.

We are good for food for 14 days and emergency food (peanut butter, saltine crackers, canned low sugar fruit, etc.) for 6 months.

We can fill in with delivered items from Boxed.com and WalMart.com.

Your attending your local concert was commendable but I suggest singing in the shower until this passes.

Stay healthy, folks. Better safe than sorry. Just look at Italy...we all need to take these precautions seriously. Baseball can wait.

though none of them are quite as colorful as Mack's description of Walmart being like the mounting the helicopters on the roof of the US Embassy in Saigon in April 1975, I'm getting stories of aggressiveness and shortages from friends and relatives in NY, NJ & CA. my son went to Publix in Coral Springs, FL this morning, and though there were shortages in meats and bread, most items were available, and people were friendly. of course, there was an unusual police presence... he suspected that other locations may not have been as calm.

here in Bonita Springs, FL, where we 'snow bird,' things are pretty normal. people are worried - think the average age on our street is well into the 70s, so the prime age for worst case illness scenario - but, thus far, I've heard or seen nothing of shortages, or bad behavior. think we're just too old for such foolishness.

hopefully, soon we'll get a new 'black swan' event of a different nature - the Mets leading the league and winning the world series! gee, maybe I should check for a fever, I must be getting delusional!

I understand (& approve of) the "social distancing" tactic to mitigate contagion. I don't understand the hoarding. I know it makes good TV (as do Black Friday flat-screen riots) but I didn't really think they're the nom.

OK, Mack got safely out of the Saigon embassy, but I live less than a mile outside the the New Rochelle NY "containment zone and stores are well stocked and there are less shoppers than usual. Stay calm folks -- and maybe stay put.

Worrisome is 2 NYS legislators tested positive at this early stage. Maybe they are all, as "leaders", getting tested. Tells me it is spreading a lot.
