Tony Plate Decision for Season to Begin

At first, the 2020 year for all professional sports was looking bleak, because of the COVID-19 outbreak. There was talk that the NBA might cancel the rest of their season.

Some were thinking, if they do the other sports might as well do the same thing. The concern was that a scenario in which players and those connected to the sport are placed at risk.

There were some that felt optimism for the baseball season to begin was running out therefore the sports world would be able to manage the shutdown from the virus.

They felt that the people have to be taken care of and protected before they decide to play any sport which is of the utmost importance.

If there is going to be a 2020 baseball season the decision for the season to begin is starting to come into focus. To start things off there could be an agreement between Major League Baseball and players next month on how the season will go forward.

The next thing on the agenda would be a few weeks of spring training in June and the beginning of regular season games in July. It is imperative for the players to have to go through some conditioning for a few weeks before the start of games.

Major League Baseball has been exploring many scenarios for how the season will start as a center of activity such as one or multiple cities that would host games that are played in ballparks without fans. Recently, the WWE held their annual WrestleMania event in an arena without any fans.

The scenarios that have been discussed are having all thirty teams in Arizona, splitting them between Arizona and Florida and using Arizona, Florida and Texas to play the games.

Afterwards, there would have to be a plan to allow it to be more extensive to pivot to other locations as the season progresses if it allows it. Both the owners and players already comprehend that the players will have to accept different compensation if the games are not played in front of the fans

In other sports news, the NFL draft took the stage this past weekend. Both the Giants and Jets drafted offensive linemen as expected in the first round. The offensive line was an area of concern for both teams after last season. The Giants chose Andrew Thomas of Georgia with the fourth pick. The Jets chose Mekhi Becton with the eleventh pick.

If they do start spring training in June, it should be short - two weeks, tops. I hope starting pitchers are ready to go five innings.

I wonder if, for the first few weeks of such a season, if they might change the rules so if you go at least 3 innings as a starter and otherwise qualify for the win, you get the win.

Otherwise, relievers could get half the wins and losses.

I agree, 2 weeks should be plenty of time to be prepared. I wouldn't be surprised if they modify the rules for a starter to go at least 3 innings to get the win.

You may see a wild expansion of the "opener" as Tampa has done for a few years now. That would minimize the innings on any starter.

Reese, I am sure some teams will use the Tampa model. If your pen is superior, it will give an advantage.

Bring on 50 man rosters!

They should have at least 30 man rosters. Add some pinch hitters/runners and some extra arms. If they start adding double headers, make it 35.

I agree, They should allow the teams to have more on their rosters than the usual.
