Mets trade for Marlins RHP Jordan Yamamoto. The 24-year-old Yamamoto has 19
games and 18 starts of MLB experience since breaking into the league in 2019.
He owned a 4.46 ERA over 15 starts in 2019 (78.2 innings). Yamamoto had a rough
go in 2020, though, allowing eight homers over four games (11.1 innings) for a
whopping 18.26 ERA.
According
to FanGraphs: Jordan
Yamamoto has one Minor League option left.
MLB
Trade Rumors: The 24-year-old Yamamoto joined the Marlins as one of four
players acquired in the lopsided deal that sent Christian Yelich to Milwaukee.
Yamamoto showed promise in a 15-start debut in 2019, notching a 4.46 ERA
through his first 78 2/3 MLB frames while striking out a quarter of the hitters
he faced. While that strikeout rate sat above the league average, he also
walked a greater-than-average 11 percent of the hitters he faced.
90
Percent Mets: “He [Yamamoto] doesn’t throw hard and has control problems.
Yamamoto does strike out a good deal of hitters and has impressive spin rates
on his fastball and curve…In exchange, Miami will receive infielder Federico
Polanco.
I
had Federico Polanco as my #34 prospect – “SS, Bats Left, Throws Right, DOB
5/20/2001…one of the highest OPS in the Mets Organization while playing in the
DSL 1 in 2019. His 2019 DSL 1 league stats produced an OPS of
.886, with a slash line of .331 BA/.414 OBP/.472 Slg. 163 At Bats, 54 hits, 13 doubles, 5 triples, 23
walks, 23 Ks, 7 stolen bases. Federico was later promoted to the GCL Mets to end
the season and struggled in 14 games with a .176 BA and .275 OBP.”

NY Post: Ex-Mets manager Mickey Callaway accused of sexually harassing reporters. "Former Mets manager Mickey Callaway aggressively pursued at least five women who work in sports media, sending three of them inappropriate photographs and asking one of them to send nude photos in return, according to a report by The Athletic on Monday."
Statements from Mets owner Steve Cohen and team president Sandy Alderson following the details of former manager Mickey Callaway’s misconduct.

This one can go in the “we were unaware” pile. Just like Cleveland. And just like, what I would imagine, the Angels will say. pic.twitter.com/aMxlCAT2jL
Column: the accusations against Mickey Callaway are another example of baseball’s long-overdue old-boy-network bills coming due. But fairly or not, they are also a second strike against the man who hired him to manage the #Mets. https://t.co/6RAwONJ44S

To clarify, MLB offered to eliminate language in the proposal the union thought gave expanded powers to cancel/postpone games to Manfred.
— Jon Heyman (@JonHeyman) February 2, 2021
With the change, both sides would have retained rights to legal action and the CBA default language would apply for pay and service https://t.co/0zae6HSrdV

Yamamoto had 4 excellent starts in a career that otherwise has been abysmal. Seems a long shot to help, and perhaps AAA depth. At least they didn’t give up much.
Mickey should change his name to Mike. Why besmirch a great baseball name?
I wonder if Lagares got himself in better shape, or the pitching is that sub par? Also, David Rodriguez remaking an offensive force this off season. Will he have a chance to beat out Nido?
Tom - not sure what to make out of Juan's performance. I think he has just gotten hot at the right time. Remember he hit no HRs in the regular Dominican Season before this recent streak. Compare him to Robel Garcia who barely hit .200 against the same pitching - Mets just cut Robel yesterday when they acquired Yamamoto.
When Lagares was a prospect, I think he was listed at 160 or 170. Now he is listed at 220. I wonder if the weight hurts him? Might not, as he is not fat, but maybe if he was 205, he'd be better off baseball-wise.
Could be a factor Tom. Age catches up to us all
