National Pastime.com: Denny Doyle's first-inning single is the only hit allowed by Nolan Ryan when he blanks the Phillies at Shea Stadium, 7-0. The 23 year-old right-hander ties the Mets' mark established by Jerry Koosman in 1968 with 15 strikeouts, but Tom Seaver will break the short-lived record, whiffing 19 Padres later in the week.

2010; Game #12; Sunday; Apr 18, NYM 3 @ STL 5 boxscore; WP: Wainwright; LP: Stoner; Time: 02:43; NIGHT; Attendance: 40,007
Baseball Reference: One day after playing a marathon
20-inning contest, the Cardinals' bullpen gets some rest as Adam Wainwright
pitches a complete game for a 5 - 3 win over the Mets. Colby Rasmus and Ryan
Ludwick's homers account for all of St. Louis's runs; Wainwright helps his own
cause by doubling ahead of Ludwick's blast in the 8th. For their part, the Mets
designate 1B Mike Jacobs for assignment before the game in order to call up P
Tobi Stoner from AAA Buffalo. Jacobs has become redundant because of the rapid
development of prospect Ike Davis, who will be called up to the majors
tomorrow. Stoner is the losing pitcher in his only game of the season, in spite
of giving up only one run in 2 1/3 innings of work with the Mets' bullpen also
burnt out from yesterday's game.

Ryan one hitter with 15 Ks. Guys that do that you keep.
Tom- Multiple theories why Ryan never put it all together in NY.
Ryan says he never was able to get regular work because of Military commitments and the depth of the staff. Ron Swoboda says that he and his wife were never comfortable in NY,
Another theory is that, for whatever reason, he did not have the connection with Rube Walker that Seaver and Koosman did. That it was so bad for him that he was thinking about retirement had he not been traded. Sometimes a change of scenery can make a difference.
But I agree with you - way to much promise to simply give up on him and not try to figure something out.
Funny seeing Gentry's name in the list, too. The Angels first asked for Gentry but the Mets said no. He could have had a good career if he could have stayed healthy
Great point Mike. Gentry at least got them Felix Millan the next year. Also, when asked about Fregolsi, Whitey HErzog said he was all done and not to make the trade (Whitey just thought it was a trade for CF Leory Stanton)
