Fryman goes 2 for 3 with 2B, 2 RBI
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (May 6, 2021) – Four St. Lucie Mets pitchers combined for a shutout in a 9-0 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Thursday at Clover Park.
Starter Garrison Bryant blanked Jupiter for five innings. He scattered three singles and struck out five on 74 pitches to earn the win.
Colby Morris followed with three strikeouts in two perfect innings. Liam McCall and Austin Faith handled the eighth and ninth, respectively.
The four pitchers struck out 10 Jupiter hitters.
Bryant and the pitching staff got all the run support they needed in the first couple of innings. The first four Mets hitters in the bottom of the first all recorded hits. The first three scored. Shervyen Newton ripped a RBI double to plate Pete Crow-Armstrong to begin the scoring. Matt Dyer punished a RBI triple later in the frame to make it 3-0.
The Mets scored three more times against Jupiter starter Chris Mokma in the second. Newton brought in a run with a grounder and another run scored on a throwing error. Francisco Alvarez lifted a sac fly for a 6-0 lead.
After a long scoreless spell, Yoel Romero added another sac fly for a 7-0 lead in the sixth. Branden Fryman finished the scoring when he ripped a two-run double in the seventh to make it 9-0.
Fryman went 2 for 3 and also drew a walk. Crow-Armstrong went 2 for 5 with two runs scored. He had an on-base streak of seven straight plate appearances snapped when he grounded out in the fourth inning.
The Mets (2-1) and Hammerheads (1-2) meet again at Clover Park on Friday at 6:10 p.m.
