Taijuan Walker said the Mets were the only team to offer him a contract this winter. Two years, $20 million guaranteed seems like a steal now.

"Everything's worked out well for everyone," Walker said. "I'm glad the Mets were my only offer."
A career-high 12 strikeouts for Taijuan Walker, who is looking like the steal of the offseason.

Taijuan Walker's 2.12 ERA is the second-lowest in history by a Met in his first 12 starts with the franchise.
— Anthony DiComo (@AnthonyDiComo) June 16, 2021
The lowest: Al Leiter, who produced a 1.70 ERA over his first 12 starts in 1998.

1997 |
At Yankee Stadium, the Mets beat their crosstown rivals, 6-0, in the first-ever regular-season game between the two teams. Dave Mlicki throws a complete-game shutout, blanking the Bronx Bombers on nine hits. You Tube Link. |
2003 |
Dontrelle Willis throws a complete-game one-hit shutout in
the Marlins' 1-0 win over the Mets at Pro Player Stadium. The D-Train's
victory, which improves his record to 6-1, marks the start of the baseball
world taking notice of the high-kicking southpaw phenom, who goes on to win
the Rookie of the Year. |
2010: The Mets continue their
roller-coaster season, winning their 6th in a row with an 8 - 4 decision
over Cleveland. All nine Mets starters collect at least one hit and either score
or drive in a run. Shelley Duncan, making a rare start in LF for the Indians, helps out with some
poor defensive play but does atone himself somewhat with a two-run homer off
winner Jon Niese.
2011: The Braves beat
the Mets, 9 -
8, on an anticlimactic play in the 10th inning. After rallying from two runs
down in the bottom of the 9th on Brooks Conrad's two-run homer off closer Francisco Rodriguez, the Braves take advantage of a balk by reliever D.J. Carrasco that allows Diory Hernandez to score the winning run. Before coming back, the Braves
blow a 6 - 2 lead by giving up a four-run 5th inning to the Mets. Chipper Jones drives in 5 runs, tying a career best.
2013: Seemingly asleep for 8 innings, the Mets suddenly wake up in the
bottom of the 9th as Carlos Marmol is trying to protect a 3 - 0 lead for the Cubs. Marlon Byrd starts off the inning with a solo homer, Lucas Duda draws a walk
and John Buck singles. Omar Quintanilla bunts both runners into scoring position before Kirk Nieuwenhuis, hitting .097 for the season, connects for a walk-off three-run homer. Marmol is only pitching because
closer Kevin Gregg, who has been perfect in 10 save opportunities so far, is
unavailable after pitching in the Cubbies' last four games.

Great play by Pilar and Guillorme saved Lugo's bacon - excellent D.
Taijuan Walker - we love you, man! WHat a great signing. Yes, it was destiny.
One of my Dark Horse prospects, Brian Metoyer, excelled in relief and picked up a W. Nice.
Bohanek is a guy who hasn't gotten ink here, but is having a good season and fine night.
McNeil in OF? Why not? Offensive upgrade.
Chris Flexen channeled Greg Maddux last night - 8 innings of 4 hit, no run, no walk, 8K pitching. Now 6-3.
Villar playing so well, that when JDD does return, how can he return as anything other than a reserve?
I guess the campaign of Nogosek and Tarpley hit a huge speed bump last nite. 2.2 innings, 9 hits, 10 runs combined?? Four Syracuse pitchers' ERAs after last night: 9.19, 17.55, 6.00, 11.57. That wouldn't even qualify for Vegas.
Don't want to see Jeff McNeil in the outfield but the way they're playing makes me bite my tongue.
BTB - thanks for stopping by.
Tom - I think the key with the Brooklyn game was that they let Edwards close. He closed out the 2019 Championship game and he should be their top closer here - especially as others have blown saves.
Tom - About Nogosek - his past troubles have all come when he goes multiple innings. Of course, he had this trouble in the 2019 tie braking play-in game against these same RailRiders. He had a good inning then - sat through a long top of the inning - came back the next inning and was lit up. Figuring this out needs to be the focus.
BTW, did you know that Syracuse has had 3 different pitching coaches this year? Don't think that has helped.
Three pitching coaches? One a month? Who will be the July coach?
If you cannot dominate AAA, how can they expect you to be successful against big league hitters?
Edwards, Metoyer, and Montes de Oca....a very interesting Brooklyn bullpen trio.
That clip with Pedro Martinez was impressive. And Tyler Glasgow should shut up. ‘Oh, you mean they’re stopping us from cheating mid-season?’ Yes, Tyler, they are.
JT Ginn: Nice evening young man! Keep going!
Rojas seems to trust co-closers Diaz and Lugo and no one else. I wasn’t in love with how he pushed Lugo last night. He needs to learn how to use other pitchers because managers like him have killed careers from overuse. Ask Scott Rice and Pedro Feliciano.
Gus, Loup, Castro, and especially May have had some ups and downs. The trust level to me is Diaz (Very High), Lugo (High), Castro and Loup (Medium) and May (Shaky).
Again, part of the reason Joey needs to be allowed to go 6 - heck, someday, maybe even 7.
