In baseball, it is always better to be on the PLUS side than the MINUS side.
The Mets, after their 3-2 win on Friday night, are a mere PLUS 18 in runs scored vs. allowed.
But are a plus 7 games over .500.
And a plus 3 games in first place after the weekend, despite Sunday's loss after taking a 2-1 lead.
Houston, meanwhile, is a +78, but is only 9 games above .500 through Friday.
I love those Mets pluses, despite all the incredible, even unprecedented, minuses the Mets have experienced in injuries this year.
Heck, Alonso got hit by a pitch in the bill of his cap on Sunday....he was fine, but the helmet went on the 60 day IL. Maybe a sign that the injury tidal wave of 2021 is receding.
Heck, when Betances throws a solid rehab inning and hits 95, it's GOTTA be receding. There was even a Squirrel sighting!
Anyway, the Mets are definitely WAY PLUS in smoke and mirrors usage.
The Mets Minors through Friday, though?
AAA Syracuse: 11-23, -61 runs scored.
AA Binghamton: 11-22, -44 runs scored.
High A Brooklyn: 10-21, -40 runs scored.
Low A St. Lucie: 20-14, +29 runs scored. (YAY)
Crosstown Yankees' minor league teams?
AAA Scranton: 21-11, + 31 runs scored.
AA Somerset: 21-12, + 52 runs scored.
High A Hudson Valley: 18-14, +16 runs scored.
Low A Tampa: 24-10, +102 runs scored. (OH ME, OH MY)
NET MINOR TOTALS?
METS MINORS: 52-80 (.394), -126 RUNS SCORED (-0.95 RPG)
YANK MINORS: 88-47 (.652), +201 RUNS SCORED (+1.49 RPG)
Wow, what an incredible difference!
The collective Mets' minors are 34.5 games behind the Yanks' teams and 327 runs behind, or an astounding 2.5 fewer net runs per game!
Of course, the above numbers excluded Sunday's games, where the 4 Mets' teams were outscored 36-7 and went 0-4. Close games until they actually started.
Clearly, Mets management has an incredible amount of work to do to bolster the Mets minor league talent feeder system.
There seems no way that the Yanks will not benefit more from their minor leagues in the upcoming years than the Mets will from theirs.
Of course, in the here and now, the major league NY Yankees themselves are just 33-32, 8.5 games out of first place, and a mere +1 in runs. Despite a 23-9 stretch after a 5-10 start, they are just 5-13 in their last 18.
So, where it counts most, the major leagues, the Mets are currently in a much better position, a PLUS 10.5 IN THE GAMES AHEAD DEPARTMENT, and we Mets fans can rejoice and even gloat a bit about that, while hoping it continues.
ALL THAT IS A HUGE PLUS!
LGM!! LGM!! LGM!!

Love your article. It is so true. I think the Mets minor league system seems worse now then when we last saw them in 2019. It seems that it has hurt a lot of their pitchers. Maybe the were not training properly during the pandemic.
Conforto vs. McKinney:
McKinney in 13 games, 43 ABs, .302/.362/.744, 10 XBH, 9 R, 12 RBI
Conforto in 33 games, 113 ABs, .230/.356/.336, 8 XBH, 10 R, 13 RBI
One guy basically gets paid MLB minimum, the other wants hundreds of millions. Can you guess which is which?
RAW, I'd sure like to know the answer. Lindsay is just one hitter who is drastically below my 2021 expectations. And the pitching has been weak, mostly.
You and I can pick out guys we think will eventually be successful major leaguers from the 4 teams. I lack familiarity with their prospects, but I can't imagine that the Yanks' list is not significantly bigger. Obviously, though, the loss of Matt Allan and Pete Crow-Armstrong has had some overall negative impact.
Teams need to develop difference-makers. Stars. Game-changers.
Depth is important, obviously -- but look at the Mets. Viller, Pillar, McKinney, Peraza. These are guys you pick up for a song. A team with resources like the Mets can always add depth.
Fortunately it looks like the Mets have a few top-tier guys in the system.
But, overall, of course you are correct. Sandy Alderson ran this organization for 7+ years at a time when building the farm was the stated objective. He failed completely.
Hopefully new guys in the room will help change whatever it is they've been doing down there. Much better to have a strong system than one that is an embarrassment.
Jimmy
Jimmy, I agree. Top 5 round picks in the Alderson era had many swings and misses. That needs to greatly improve.
The good news is the Mets are still a rather young team with no need for replacements in near future. Alvarez, Baty and Mauricio may all be ready in 2023. No need to panic yet. I like my future better than the Yanks.
Need to find a new position for Mauricio. 8 Errors so far this year at SS in Brooklyn. Rosario had a ton of errors at SS his minor league career as did Wilmer Flores. Mets did not change their positions until they hit MLB. Don't make the same mistake with Mauricio.
Amed Rosario is doing quite well in Cleveland, having a .280 average and playing center field and shortstop. Why can’t Mauricio do the same?
Amed Rosario at age 20 split his season between A and AA, and hit .324 with just 87 Ks in 120 games. Age 20 Ronny Mauricio is nowhere close to him in that regard - of course, he lost a season.
Mauricio is in my opinion showing he is a 2023 arrival. Maybe. But, yes, he s/b in the outfield.
