Wold collects 3 hits in third career game
DUNEDIN, Fla. (August 13, 2021) – The Dunedin Blue Jays snapped the St. Lucie Mets seven-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory at TD Ballpark on Friday night (Box Score).
Steward Berroa hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the eight off Drake Nightengale to break a scoreless tie.
The runs were charged to Mets starter Oscar Rojas (4-2), who gave up a hit and a walk to start the eighth inning. Through the first 7.0 innings Rojas held the Blue Jays to just one hit and one walk while dominating with 11 strikeouts.
Five Blue Jays pitchers combined for the shutout. Matt Svanson (1-0) pitched the seventh and eighth innings to get the win. Jol Concepcion pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
The Mets collected seven hits, but all were singles and five of the hits came with two outs and the bases empty. Jack-Thomas Wold went 3 for 4 in his third career game.
JT Schwartz was 2 for 4 in his third career game.
Entering the eighth inning the Mets had allowed just one run to the Blue Jays over the first 24 innings of the series.
The start of the game was delayed by four hours and two minutes due to rain and field conditions.
