Tim Britton - Mets aren’t hitting for enough extra-base power -
After back-to-back games without an extra-base hit, the Mets had five of them Wednesday against Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes, including Alonso’s two homers and a pair of two-baggers from Lindor. Nevertheless, New York is slugging .322 on the young season. For context, that’s lower than Tomás Nido’s slugging percentage last season.
The Mets showed last year they can score runs when they aren’t hitting the ball out of the park. That approach, however, reduces their margin for error. It requires piecing together more hits against good pitching, and it’s tougher to execute when you have empty outs at the bottom of the lineup.
Last season, the Mets ranked 10th in baseball in production from the bottom third of the order with a .671 OPS, and they would have ranked higher if not for the black hole that was their catching situation in the ninth slot. So far this season, New York’s seventh through ninth hitters are hitting .189 with a .481 OPS.

Opener at 1:10 today postponed due to expected deluge, but it is gorgeous out just before what would have been gametime and rain chances thru the afternoon seem low. BAD CALL. VERY BAD CALL.
