Last month. Baseball
America updated their Top 100 Draft Prospect list.
One addition stood out.
A brand-new name filled the 25 slot who, in the past, was
not ranked by them. It’s the off-season. Was this an oversight? We will never
know. What we do know is we need to take a deep dive on, one, John
Hucko:
John Hucko is a 2027 high
school baseball prospect (outfielder/left-handed pitcher) from Charlotte
Catholic High School in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an Auburn University.
He is a left-handed hitter and thrower, listed around
6'0"–6'1" and 185–195 lbs. Scouts highlight him as a dynamic athlete
with a strong power-speed combination, a fluid and balanced left-handed swing,
plus bat speed, feel to hit with all-fields impact, and plus (70-grade) running
ability with center-field upside. He has also shown pitching velocity in the
upper 80s to low 90s (with reports of a 93 mph max fastball).
In Baseball America’s updated 2027 MLB Draft rankings (as of
October 21, 2026), he is the biggest riser, entering the board at No. 25. Some
scouts rank him even higher based on his performance over the summer and fall.
He committed to Auburn in October 2025 while a junior.
