MACK - Deep Dive - IF - Kyren Paris

The Mets picked up on waivers, infielder Kyren Paris, from the Los Angeles Angels.

Paris (born November 11, 2001; turns 25 in November) is a right-handed hitting/throwing former second-round pick (55th overall) by the Angels in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Freedom High School in Oakley, California. He debuted in the majors in 2023 and has primarily been a utility player capable of playing second base, shortstop, and all three outfield positions (stronger defensively in the infield).

Key stats and background

MLB career (through 2026, mostly with the Angels): .147/.238/.272 slash line, 7 HR, 17 RBI, 11 SB in 88 games / ~263 plate appearances, with a high ~38% strikeout rate.

2026 MLB: Limited to 8 games (0-for-15, 8 strikeouts, 3 walks). He spent most of the year in the minors.

2026 minors: Strong showing, roughly .274/.384/.458 with 13 HR and 24 steals between Double-A and Triple-A (including a strong Triple-A stretch around .307/.427/.554 with power and speed).

He was out of minor-league options after 2026, so the claiming team faces a roster decision (keep him or risk losing him on waivers again before Opening Day).

Paris was out for the remainder of the 2026 MLB season on September 15, 2026, due to a fractured right index finger.

He was placed on the 10‑day injured list (retroactive to September 15), with recovery expected to take 3–4 weeks, leaving him more than enough time to be ready for 2027.

A long shot with a problematic bat.

Supposedly he’s very athletic and some coach messed up his swing. Put him in the lab and let’s see… at least he didn’t sign Zack Short yet.

Strange sign to me

Would rather they signed Tom's brother than this guy

My brother needs surgery and rehab, then he can return as a 60 year old throwing 95. And hitting every second batter for the fun of it⚾️⚾️⚾️⚾️

Don’t worry. Short will show up sometimes in 2027, bat .140 and after playing several games get released. He’s Stearns guilty pleasure.

A senseless waste of resources. He plays all the positions that the Mets are strong already and has no differentiating qualities to suggest that he can leapfrog the tough competition.
