Draft Profile - RHP Kyle Funkhouser - Louisville

5-24-14  -  Mack:  Kyle Funkhouser turned eyes this past Cape Cod League with his 92-94, 97 fastball. It's backed up with an impressive slider and a change-up that still is a work in progress.

There have been command issues, but the 6-3 righty has worked hard to help lead his team to the NCAA regionals.

5-30-14 - Funkhouser raised his seasonal record to 13-2, after tossing 8.0-IP, 4-H, 0-R, 10-K against Kent State in the opening round of the NCAA tourney.

5-20-14  -  Kyle Funkhouser, RHP, Louisville  -  At 6’-3” and 205 pounds, the right-hander showed an electric fastball at the Cape Cod League, hitting 97 mph and sitting 92-94 with life. His slider is a solid offering and his change-up is still developing. He has had command issues this season but he features some great swing-and-miss stuff when on. With continued work on his command, and work on his off-speed stuff, he has great potential due to his size and power arm. Draft 15 – Alex Bregman, Daz Cameron, Kyle Molnar, David Hearne, Kyle Funkhouser

9-3-13 - Daz Cameron has people excited for the 2015 Draft already. I’m probably his biggest fan already and that’s really for 2 reasons. Georgia talent seems to have a soft spot in my heart and the kid can flat out rake. David Hearne, rhp, Redding (So., Notre Dame) - Hearne made nine starts and 21 appearances for the Irish in the spring, going 1-2, 4.70 with 36 strikeouts and 14 walks in 44 innings as a true freshman. He’s a 6-foot-4, 195-pounder who stood out for his advanced feel of the strike zone, posting a 33-5 strikeout-walk ratio in 29 innings. Hearne’s fastball ranges from 89-93 mph with decent life, and he pairs it with a hard 76-78 mph curveball. He wasn’t a big name coming out of Providence Catholic (Ill.) 9-10-13 – Top Arms in 2013 Cape Cod League - Kyle Funkhouser 6-3/205, Chatham Anglers 13 IP, 21 K, 4.15 ERA: FB 91-95 CB 79-81 SL 82-83 CH 86-87 -  He has “wow” stuff, and the 1.6 K/9 should speak for itself. Kyle can attack hitters anyway he wants. With his four pitch mix, I am shocked that he wasn’t in a starting rotation this summer. Louisville should give him a chance to work into games, and see how he develops. Strong arm and durable body with some pop in his bat and power to LF, runs decent for a catcher, could be a quality catcher or backup at the ML level quickly.


Trevor Megill:


8-12-11: - http://www.prospectwire.com/pw/article.php?id=290  - RHP Trevor Megill (6'7" 230, Huntington Beach, CA) was the one I like most for the long haul and with his body type, stuff (89-92 mph), arm action and easy fluid delivery, I can make a decent comparison to Marlins RHP Josh Johnson. What I also like about Megill is that he has feel for the breaking ball, a 76-77 mph curveball. I think Megill projects about as easily as you can fairly project any young pitcher.


Joey Rickard:

He was an All-Star at the Cape this summer and put up a line of .311/.382/.392 with 14 steals in 17 attempts.

Lewis Brinson 2012 OF 6'4 180 Tamarac, FL Coral Springs - Brinson has a ton of tools. He is really skinny, but has a big frame and should be able to add some strength. He already has good batting practice power and it should come in games with time. He is raw but he was one of the best players at the game.
