Tom Brennan - Today’s Tasty Tidbits

TOM’S TASTY TIDBITS

A big, big 4-3 win for the Mets on chilly Tuesday. Huge. Come from behind kind of win.

Freddy Peralta very, very nearly got out of the fifth unscathed, but just missed strike 3 on one hitter, then threw a couple of great pitches before a breaking ball slipped from his hand to hit a batter and load the bases.  Brazoban allowed all 3 runners to score.

But the Mets tied it on a CLUTCH Jared Young sacrifice fly, and won it on a deep drive walk off “single” by Ronny Mo. 107 MPH scorcher to the track.

He is very, very welcome back! Ronny Mo is READY TO GO, BRO’.

Poor Carson Benge went hitless again.

Rips a shot past the pitcher, but the IF was right behind second. Out.

Later, a tough sliding track catch on what was probably a Benge HR (a Bengian Blast) on a normal weather day. But…it was just another out.

Which is yet another example of why I have wanted fences 5 feet closer, to make the park hitter-pitcher-neutral. The balls don’t fly out in cold/cool weather. Had that been a HR, a huge Benge exhale ensues, and he is ready to go. Instead, he gets to stare at his sub-.100 average for another day. And have Billy Joel’s song PRESSURE pulsating in his head.

Elsewhere, after 3 games, Brooklyn hitters are 11 for 93 with 45 Ks.

 - Draw your own conclusions. No, it is NOT too soon to do so.

And while St Lucie only got two innings in, pre-weather suspension, Elian Peña already had 2 hits AND 2 steals. He is EXCITING. EH-LEE-ON!

Binghamton and Syracuse had their games cancelled due to winter. One can only hope the following is true:

“Winter snow storms bring no more storms.”

Phillies shut out, Marlins lose, too, and Braves win. Braves brawl, too. Lots of missed punches. Finally…

Pete Alonso? No RBIs in 5 PAs. Eleven games, .186, 3 RBIs.  PRESSURE!

Please add your own typically incisive thoughts and observations.

No more tidbits for the kiddies today.

The weather is brutal & it’s got to be so difficult to hit MLb pitching when you are freezing inside & outside.

Ball doesn’t carry. See it every April.

But they are 7-4, so off to a solid start. Playing very competitive games & coming out on top more often than not.

This game was psychologically important for the Mets. They had some bad breaks and were losing late to an inferior team. They found a way to tie it and then win it in extras. When you don't give up and then succeed, it plants a seed in your head that you can accomplish anything, no matter what adversity you face.

Benge had an oh-fer, but he crushed a ball late that was caught on a beautiful play. He is showing signs of mental toughness by continuing to focus despite the lack of success.

Weather affects both teams equally

Are they inferior without the Mets having Soto right now? Great win.

Apparently affected Arizona slightly more!

Benge needs balls to find holes.
