MACK - MACK – Let’s Revisit - SS - Wandy Asigen
Wandy Asigen is a 17-year-old Dominican shortstop prospect in the New York Mets organization (born August 21, 2009, in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic).
He is a left-handed hitter / right-handed thrower, listed at about 6'0" and 175–180 lbs. He was one of the top players in the 2026 international free-agent class (ranked No. 2 overall by MLB Pipeline).
He had a longstanding verbal commitment to the Yankees but switched after the Yankees’ international scouting leadership changed; the Mets signed him on January 15, 2026, for a $3.9 million bonus. Scouting profileScouts praise his special left-handed swing, explosive bat speed, ability to generate high exit velocities (110+ mph reported pre-signing), loft, and potential for plus power as he fills out. He also has plus speed (60-yard times around 6.55 seconds) and athleticism that should help him stay at shortstop for now (average arm strength, solid range and instincts).
Overall tools project as a high-upside, potentially five-tool player with one of the more advanced offensive profiles in his class. 2026 professional debut (DSL)He missed the start of the Dominican Summer League season with a hamstring injury and debuted in late June for the DSL Mets Orange. In 23 games (83 PA / 61 AB) he posted strong numbers: .279/.470/.525 (.995 OPS), 3 HR, 2 doubles, 2 triples, 9 RBI, 15 runs, 6 SB (4 CS), 19 BB, 24 SO. High walk rate and power stood out for a 16/17-year-old in his first pro action.
He is currently ranked among the Mets’ top prospects (around No. 9–12 depending on the list.
Baseball America had him as high as No. 5 in some 2026 rankings).
He remains very early in his development (still in the complex/DSL level) with a long runway, but he is viewed as a high-ceiling international signee for the Mets.
