LAST GAME: The B-Mets erased a pair of deficits before eventually falling to the Harrisburg Senators, 4-3, on Friday night at NSYEG Stadium. Kevin Plawecki hit his first Double-A home run and drove in three runs in the losing effort. Trailing by one in the fifth, Plawecki took Brad Meyers deep with a solo shot to start the inning. After Michael Taylor put the Sens back on top with a two-run homer in the sixth, Plawecki responded with a two-run single in the eighth off Neil Holland. Harrisburg grabbed the lead for good with a run on three hits in the ninth against Chasen Bradford. Ricky Hague delivered the go-ahead single.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara makes his sixth start of the season. The righty took his first loss of the season in his last start. He allowed three runs (two earned) and matched a season-high with eight hits allowed to the Portland Sea Dogs in five innings of work on May 4. Lara is winless in his last three starts after collecting a pair of wins to open the season. Signed as a non-drafted free agent in October 2009, Lara split last season between Savannah (Low-A) and St. Lucie (High-A) going 8-7 with a 2.85 ERA between both levels.
HARRISBURG STARTER: RHP Paolo Espino makes his fifth appearance of the season and second straight start. The righty from Panama went four innings in his last start against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on May 5. He allowed six runs on seven hits in the loss. Espino signed with the Nationals as a Minor League free agent in early April. He spent the first seven years of his pro career in the Cleveland Indians organization, spending most of the last four seasons with the Akron Aeros.
BOYD BASHING: B-Mets 1B/DH Jayce Boyd has gone 8-for-11 in his last four games with three doubles, two home runs, six runs scored and five RBI. He has raised his batting average by 67 percentage points during the stretch. Boyd, drove in four runs on Thursday, becoming the first B-Met to collect four RBI in one game since Cory Vaughn drove in four against the Erie SeaWolves on August 11, 2013.
PLAWECKI HEATING UP: B-Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki has hit safely in each of his last seven games. He has hit .393 (11-for-28) during the stretch with three doubles, a home run, four RBI and four multiple-hit games. He has raised his batting average by 48 percentage points.
CARRILLO KEEPS IT UP: Xorge Carrillo, serving as a backup to Kevin Plawecki, has hit safely in his first ten games of the season. He is the third B-Met to compile a streak of ten games or longer this season. He has gone 5-for-10 in his last three games.
ENDING THE STREAK: Harrisburg’s victory on Friday night snapped Binghamton’s five-game winning streak against the Senators that dated back to the 2013 season.
BOMBS AWAY: The B-Mets have at least one home run in their last four games, a season-high. They have gone deep seven times during the stretch with six different players leaving the yard.
THIS TIME LAST YEAR: The 2013 B-Mets went 16-15 in their first 31 games of the season, matching the 2014 B-Mets’ start. Last year’s club went on to earn a franchise-record 86 victories. From May 4 to August 17, the team posted a 65-33 record.
ON THE LEADER BOARD: B-Mets middle infielder Wilfredo Tovar ranks fifth in the league with a .349 batting average. Matt Clark sits tied for third with seven home runs and ranks second with a .598 on-base percentage. -
