LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets blew a pair of leads, including a seven-run advantage before eventually beating the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 9-8, in 14 innings on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Matt Reynolds drove in the go-ahead run in the final inning with his fourth hit to push the B-Mets to their fifth straight win and the three-game series sweep. Leading 7-0 into the bottom of the sixth, the B-Mets watched New Hampshire put up two in the sixth against Tyler Pill and five in the seventh against the bullpen. Binghamton let another lead slip away after plating a run in the eighth. Adam Kolarek earned the win after two scoreless innings and John Church posted a perfect ninth to earn his first save.
BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME ONE: RHP Hansel Robles makes his seventh start of the season and second against the Sea Dogs. The righty comes off his roughest start of the season. He was tagged for a season-high seven runs on six hits, including three homers, over 2.2 innings on Tuesday, May 13 against the Altoona Curve. Robles has allowed 12 earned runs in his last two starts. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in August 2008.
PORTLAND STARTER, GAME TWO: LHP Henry Owens makes his ninth start this season and fourth versus the B-Mets. The southpaw tossed four no-hit innings in his last start against the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday, May 14, but walked five batters. He struck out eight in the no-decision. Owens is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA against Binghamton in three starts this season. Owens was selected as the 36th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Edison HS (CA).
BINGHAMTON STARTER, GAME TWO: LHP Angel Cuan takes the mound for the first time this season for the B-Mets. He was transferred to the B-Mets roster prior to today’s game. The southpaw made one appearance for the Binghamton Mets last season, making a spot-start against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on July 16, 2013. Cuan spent the rest of the 2013 with St. Lucie (High-A), going 8-3 with a 3.57 ERA over 27 games (12 starts). The Panama native was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in September 2007.
PORTLAND STARTER, GAME TWO: RHP Mike McCarthy makes his sixth start of the season and first since facing the B-Mets on May 4. He allowed one unearned run over six innings to earn his second win. McCarthy’s last two appearances have come out of the bullpen where he’s allowed five runs on ten hits over four innings of work. In two starts against the B-Mets he has gone 1-0 with a 2.38 ERA. McCarthy was selected by the Red Sox in the 14th round in 2011 out of Cal-State Bakersfield.
AGAINST THE SEA DOGS: B-Mets have gone 3-5 against Portland this season, losing their only previous meeting at Hadlock Field. Binghamton has hit .254 as a team against the Double-A Red Sox and compiled a 4.89 staff ERA.
SCOUTING PORTLAND: Portland enters this series having won four straight, including three in a row to sweep the Trenton Thunder to open their week-long homestand. The Sea Dogs are twelve games over .500, their high-water mark in 2014.
DOUBLEHEADER TREND: The B-Mets have split each of their three doubleheaders this season by winning the opener before losing the nightcap each time.
WINNING STREAK: The B-Mets have won nine of their last eleven games and five straight entering play today. A victory in the opener would match their longest winning streak since they took six straight from June 6-14 last season.
