May 14th 2014 -- Yankees 4, Mets 0
Wednesday night the Mets brought the subway series home to Flushing and Rafael Montero made his Major League debut, but behind lights out pitching by Yankee phenom Masahiro Tanaka, the Yanks blanked the Mets 4-0. The Mets only managed 4 hits on the night off Tanaka. They came in the form of singles by Daniel Murphy, Chris Young and Bobby Abreu and a double by Eric Young Jr. The Yanks got to Montero scoring single runs in the 2nd , 4th and 6th as he went 6 innings in his debut allowing 5 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts. Montero allowed solo homers to Yangervis Solarte (4) in the 4th and Mark Teixeira (8)in the 6th. In the 7th Brett Gardner scored on an infield single by Derek Jeter that featured a huge miscommunication by Carlos Torres and Anthony Recker. Tanaka was brilliant going 9 allowing just the 4 hits he walked none and struck out 8. He improves to 6-0 with the win. Montero falls to 0-1. David Wright went 0 for 4 on the night snapping his 11 game hitting streak. The Mets now stand at 19-20 on the season and 9-11 at home.
