NY Post: Mets’ series finale against Phillies postponed due to rain. “The game is scheduled to be made up on June 25 as part of a doubleheader beginning at 4:10 p.m.”



SNY.TV: Mets update rotation against Rockies after rainout, including plan for Jacob deGrom. “Jacob deGrom will now pitch on Friday night, followed by Lucchesi on Saturday night (he will simply be pushed back a day). Stroman will pitch on Sunday afternoon as originally scheduled.”

SNY.TV: Mets give promising injury updates on Carlos Carrasco, J.D. Davis. Carrasco threw 65 pitches over four innings on Wednesday in Florida….[J.D. Davis] has been taking swings in the cage and taking grounders at third base, and seems to be on track to be activated from the IL on April 17 when he is first eligible.

Phil Mushnick NY Post: MLB whiffing and becoming a waste of time. “Monday, in an 8 ¹/₂-inning game. The Rays and Rangers struck out 29 times. Among the 51 outs, 29 K’s. And the game included two designated hitters, to prevent pitchers from batting and presumably striking out. Tuesday, the Indians vs. White Sox totaled 24 strikeouts. All pitchers have become Nolan Ryan. And soon, plenty of good seats still available!”

Mike Puma NY Post: Mets showing some early positives in wild start to season.  “Brandon Nimmo may have finally arrived…The Mets are getting length from their starting pitchers…Just maybe the Mets have a real bench…Homers aren’t necessary…Mets batters are wearing bull’s-eyes (again): Overall, the Mets have been plunked nine times, which is tied for second in the major leagues. The Mets led the major leagues in getting hit by pitches in 2019 and were second in that category last year.”

Water from the Gowanus Canal, which flows near Dodgers' old home Ebbets Field, and water from the Harlem River, located near the Polo Grounds, once the Giants and the Mets home ballpark, is blessed and used to christened Shea Stadium. The ballpark's namesake, Bill Shea, credited with bringing the National League back to New York, pours the water from two bottles, blessing the Flushing Meadow structure on the eve of its debut.

1966

On the second day of the season, Jack Fischer gives up just five hits in his complete-game effort, beating Atlanta at Shea Stadium, 3-1. The win represents the Mets' earliest victory in franchise history.

 Baseball Reference:

2011 - The Mets are swept in a doubleheader for the second time in three days as they go down, 4 - 2 and 4 - 0, to the Atlanta Braves. In the second game, Jair Jurrjens throws seven shutout innings in his return from the disabled list, while Alex Gonzalez is the hero in the opener, hitting two of the Braves' four solo homers in support of Derek Lowe's pitching. The Mets have now lost seven in a row.

2013: The Rockies battle the elements to sweep the Mets in a doubleheader at home. The opener is delayed by two hours as an 8-inch snowfall has to be removed from the field, with Colorado owner Dick Monfort pitching in by manning a shovel, and the day concludes when Jordan Pacheco singles home the winning run in the 10th inning of the second game, for a 9 - 8 win. The Rockies also win the opener, 8 - 4, as the games are played in frigid conditions and occasional snow flurries. Reporters quip that there are more snowmen than fans at Coors Field.

2015:  Giancarlo Stanton becomes the Marlins all-time leading home run hitter when he slugs #155 for his career off Dillon Gee of the Mets. He was tied with Dan Uggla since being hit in the face with a pitch late in the 2014 season. However, the Mets go on to win, 7 - 5.

Acuna Jr is a freak. Atlanta was about to fall to 4-9 until he helped ignite 9th inning, come-from-behind rally.

Gimenez almost channeled Harrelson-Rose.

Nobody on this blog is allowed to sing, “Let It Snow.”

If the weather is going all February in Colorado, why not change plans and have them fly here and play at Citi?

Jimmy and Tom - there is now a link at the top of this site that takes you to the bottom of the post and link to comment section. That solves the scrolling problem.

To Mack's point, I am OK with the daily links. If I have one suggestion, it is to put the Games Played On This Date feature behind a separate button. I cannot imagine that I will ever look at anything in there. There simply is not enough time in the day to look at what happened last year or 22 years ago (for me).

My preference for the site would still be a main page pane or window look with a half dozen hot panes for (1) Articles (2) News of the Day (3) Draft Prospects (4) History - games of the day etc. (5) Mets Minor League News (6) Other MLB news.

My sense is the articles are the most interesting and generate the most/best comments. I would like to see them remain 'active' longer. The news of the day is comprehensive and an excellent feature, but those of us with A.D.D. can get down a rabbit hole and not come up for hours. Yeah, my problem, not yours, but . .

1969 - I have been playing with different formats as Tom has made similar comments in the past. Probably won't be until the off season though.

Good stuff John. I haven’t seen SportsCenter yet because I know your column is better, so I invest the time here!

Watching Vlad Guerrero’s break the ball on that hanger, makes me wonder: Is Gregory Guerrero still alive?

I can’t blame Eaton, how can a player’s body push you off the bag and it be ok? I mean, yes, technically he shoved him, but it was more like “dude clear out, I want to kill this umpire” shove.
