BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (9-21) fell to the Baysox 12-0 in the series opener Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium. Bowie’s Johnny Rizer powered Bowie’s offense going 4-5 with 3 runs scored, 3 RBI, and 3 doubles.
Bowie (22-7) was led by strong pitching from starter Grayson Rodriguez (2-0) who allowed only two hits over five innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Caleb Bishop allowed just one baserunner over 4 scoreless innings in relief to get the save (2). Luc Rennie (0-2) took the loss for Binghamton allowing five runs on four hits over five frames.
Bowie scored three runs in the second and Joey Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the lead to 5-0. The Baysox tacked on one run in the 6th, two in the 8th and four in the 9th.
The Rumble Ponies continue their series with the Baysox on Wednesday night with first pitch at 6:35PM and pregame coverage starting at 6:20 on MiLB.com and MiLB.TV
POSTGAME NOTES: Carlos Cortes hit his 13th double of the year and 18th extra-base hit of the year in the ninth inning...Quinn Brodey in his first game of the year for the Rumble Ponies had a single in the fourth inning.
