Good Morning. Happy Birthday Dan Goggin and Blaine McIntosh. Pete Alonso goes deep twice but Mets lose to O's, Syracuse loses, Binghamton loses, St. Lucie wins and Brooklyn is rained out.

Orioles 10 Mets 3 (Box Score) Jonathan Villar 3B 0 for 4, 2 Ks; Francisco Lindor SS 0 for 2, 1 walk, 1 run scored; James McCann 1B 1 for 4, 1 K; Pete Alonso DH 2 for 4, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs, 2 runs scored; Dominic Smith LF 1 for 4, 3 Ks; David Peterson P 2.2 innings, 4 runs – all earned, 8 hits, 1 walk, 4 Ks; Robert Gsellman 2.1 innings, 4 runs – all earned, 4 hits, 1 HR, 1 walk, 1 K; Jacob Barnes 1 inning 1 run – earned, 3 hits, 1 K; Drew Smith 2 innings, 1 run – earned, 1 hit, 1 HR, 3 Ks;
Mets.com: “By the time David Peterson walked off the mound at Camden Yards on Tuesday, head bowed and face stern, the Mets were already well on their way to a 10-3 loss to the Orioles. Peterson had again submitted a poor start, allowing four runs on eight hits over 2 2/3 innings. His ERA over his last four outings is 9.88, leaving the Mets to wonder: Is the promising young left-hander still one of their five best current rotation options?”
NY Post: David Peterson struggles again as Mets get ripped by Orioles. Jacob deGrom, Marcus Stroman and Taijuan Walker have been horses in the Mets’ rotation and Joey Lucchesi is showing recent improvement, but the 25-year-old Peterson is headed in the wrong direction.
Metstradamus: “The problem is that the Mets really don’t have the luxury of sending him [Peterson] down to develop him. with the starting pitching depth thin with no Syndergaard and no Carrasco, the Mets’ options are limited.
Mets.com: Stat of the Day - June 8: Orioles 10, Mets 3 – “In allowing three runs to the Orioles in the second inning of a 10-3 loss on Tuesday, David Peterson gave up three or more in an inning for the sixth time this season. Only Luis Castillo of the Reds has allowed more rallies of at least three runs.”
We've missed the DH.

Mets.com:
“Second baseman Jeff McNeil
will begin a Minor League rehab stint this weekend, according to manager Luis
Rojas, which would put McNeil on track for a return well before the end of the
month. And while the Mets don’t have a similar timeline for outfielder Michael
Conforto, who is also nursing a hamstring strain, Conforto indicated he
could go on assignment by the middle of the month. That would line him up to
return before July.”

1973 |
Right fielder Rusty Staub becomes the pivot man in a very
unusual double play during a 4-2 Mets victory against the Dodgers at Shea
Stadium. Racing in from the outfield, 'Le Grand Orange' gets a throw near
second base from first baseman John Milner and tags Davey Lopes, who was
picked-off from first and then throws the ball home to nail Tom Paciorek
trying to score from second during the P-1B-SS-1B-2B-1B-2B-RF-C rundown. |
1973 |
The Mets retire Gil Hodges' number 14 in tribute to their
late manager, who died of a heart attack just before the start of the season.
In addition to leading his underdog club to a World Championship in 1969, the
quiet leader also hit the first home run in franchise history, a 1962 solo
shot at Busch Stadium off St. Louis right-hander Larry Jackson. |
1989 |
Mets outfielder Darryl Strawberry hits his 200th career
home run in a ten-inning, 4-3, loss to the Pirates. The six-foot, six-inch
slugger will finish his 18-year major league career with 335 round-trippers. |
1999 |
After being ejected in the 12th inning by plate umpire
Randy Marsh for arguing a catcher's interference call, Bobby Valentine
returns to the dugout with a fake mustache and glasses. The National League
will suspend the Mets' manager for two games and fine him for using the
disguise. |
2015 |
In front of a dwindling crowd, made up of mostly remaining
Giants fans, Chris Heston, making his 13th career start, strikes out the side
in the ninth inning to finish the season's first no-hitter, a 5-0 Giants'
victory over the Mets at Citi Field. The 27
year-old rookie right-hander's no-no, the 17th in franchise history,
marks the fourth straight season the feat has been accomplished by a San
Francisco hurler, with Matt Cain (2012) and Tim Lincecum (2013 and 2014)
throwing complete games without yielding a hit during the past three years. |
1973: After the old
timer's game at Shea Stadium‚ Willie Mays puts on his own show with a homer and
circus catch and the Mets
top the Dodgers‚ 4 - 2. Willie‚ older than a half dozen of the
old Mets‚ hits homer #655 of his career. Rusty Staub drives in two runs to back Jon Matlack. In the old timers game‚ the Brooklyn Dodgers/Yankees lose to the Mets‚ 1 - 0‚ in two innings.
1992: The Yankees trade P Lee Guetterman to the Mets
in exchange for P Tim Burke.
1995 - The Padres defeat the Mets‚
8 - 4‚ behind Joey Hamilton. To make his day complete‚ Hamilton
doubles off Mets P Pete Harnisch for his first hit in 58 major league at
bats.
1997: The Mets'
Bobby Jones singles in a run and cops his
eighth straight win‚ beating the host Reds‚
4 - 2. Jones has won 11 games faster than any pitcher in Mets history and is
the first National League pitcher to win 11 this season.
2006 - The Mets
trade 2B Kaz Matsui to the Rockies for utilityman Eli Marrero.

Desmond Lindsay Era is over.
Some HR from Shohei Ohtani - Pete hit two, but not like the Othani bomb.
Peterson gets a vote of confidence, in part because the Mets likely don't want to rush Szapucki or Megill.
Every time I start to build some confidence in Gsellman, a game like last night's happens.
Alex Ramirez needed a breakout game, and he got it.
I wonder how much longer the Cookie needs to be baking before he starts pitching? I drove passed the sign that said Sublime a while back, and am moving towards the one that says Ridiculous up just ahead.
Can he borrow Thor's hamstring for a while, since Thor is currently not using it?
Carlos Fiasco coming back at all in 2021 would surprise me. The Mets say they will continue to send Peterson out there every fifth day, but I can't see this lasting long with this type of struggle.
Bob W
Tom - I think Cookie is done. I'd be surprised if he comes back. Thor might come back late as a relief pitcher but not counting on it as well.
The Kilome injury is a tough one. He pitches a 7 inning shut out then the DL. Thought he had turned a corner.
Per Tim Healey Newsday: Carlos Carrasco was throwing off the slope of the mound last week.
Now, he is not.
Strengthening his right hamstring remains the focus, Luis Rojas said.
"There is no reinjury or anything like that," Rojas said.
There is no timeline for his return.
