Mack - Draft Thoughts: Quinn Mathews, Termarr Johnson, Zach Neto, Bryce Hubbard, Nate Savino

Quinn Mathews (2022 eligible) Stanford, Cotuit Kettleers from Friday, went 6 innings allowing one run, on 5 hits, and 2 walks. Punched out 6 mixing FB, SL, CHG. Fills the zone, misses bats with his secondaries, commands arsenal.

 This was the longest outing I've seen from a pitcher this summer as Mathews ran the pitch count up to 96 in total. Just dominated the zone all day keeping hitters off balance w/ his secondary stuff, and driving bad contact.

Mack's spin - 

This is the first good news I have read about Mathews. 

2021 Stanford stat line:  18-ST, 14-G, 5-2, 6.08, 66.2-IP, 60-K

Hopefully, this is a sign that he will improve on his 2021 production.

Heading into this summer, (Termarr) Johnson is an early favorite to be the best prep hitter in the 2022 Draft class. Hitting from the left side, the Georgia native generates tons of bat speed and good instincts in the box that make it difficult to sneak any pitch past him. Even though he stands at a listed 5-foot-10 -- which might be generous by an inch or two -- he has little trouble translating his quick hands into over-the-fence power. Johnson clubbed 24 homers -- six of which were 450-plus feet -- over two rounds during the All-Star High School Home Run Derby at Coors Field on July 10. Six days later, he laced a 93 mph fastball several rows into the Tropicana Field right-field seats at the Perfect Game Showcase.

Johnson is my top shortstop and should be a top 5 pick in this draft. 

 

7-27-21 - Prospect Love Top 100 2022 Prospects - 

30 Zach Neto SS Campbell 

Neto really exudes confidence and athleticism at the plate. He extends really well and has a knack for catching the ball out in front, tapping into a lot of his raw power. He's a good hitter with a track record of success at school and on the cape as well. Really good feel for tempo on the dirt with soft hands and body control. Can also steal a bag. Arm might only be average. Whether he ends up at second base, shortstop or anywhere else on the diamond, Neto has a pretty complete profile that will appeal to teams.

Still, I would love to see if this stood up to SEC or ACC pitching.

7-27-21 - Prospect Love Top 100 2022 Prospects - 

18. Bryce Hubbart 

Left-Handed Pitcher, Florida State 

When it comes to Hubbart, it's all limbs. It's an extremely funky, unique delivery that he repeats well and creates a ton of deception. To his credit, Hubbart fills up the zone despite the unique operation. Primarily a 3-pitch guy (FB, CB, CH), Hubbart has begun to work in a slurvy slider with plenty of sweep and a touch more velocity than his deeper curveball. The fastball is generally 89-92, though he's been up to 96. His athleticism, arm speed and levers suggest those gains are coming permanently. The whole package is nasty, deceptive, wonky and effective. He’s one of the more complete pitchers in the ACC and one of the more impressive pitchers in the entire country.

Hubbard is already putting up decent results for a school that plays the best teams in the game.

The sky is the limit of Bryce in 2022.

I currently have him as my 7th LHP.

  

7-20-21 - TTF -

 Nate Savino, LHP, Virginia 

Savino was a heavily scouted prep pitcher, who easily could’ve opted to turn pro early on, but decided to attend Virginia instead. He throws a mid-90s fastball with some exploding sink action that I can’t stop watching in his scouting videos. His slider is strong and seems to be his punch out pitch more times than not.

2021 Virginia stat line - 16-G, 10-starts, 3-3, 3.79, 54.2-IP, 34-K, 16-BB

Savino's 2021 stat line may not scream out at you, but he is considered one of the top five LHPs in this draft.
