Mack - Draft Thoughts - Trey Dembrowski, Jayson Jones, Jared Jones, Tristan Smith, Diego Guevara

8-8-21 - Cape League @OfficialCCBL

Prior to tonight’s game in Harwich, Brock Wilken was awarded the Pat Sorenti MVP Award and LHP Trey Dombroski was awarded the BFC Whitehouse Outstanding Pitcher Award!

 Mack's spin -

2021 Monmouth stat line - 9-G, 8-ST, 5-1, 2.73, 52.2-IP, 64-K, only 8-BB

Small school... big results.

I currently have him as my 13th LHP.

8-7-21 - Joe Doyle @JoeDoyleMiLB

On the college side, a sleeper I'm keeping my eye on is Tennessee Tech shortstop Brett Roberts. Good frame (6-1, 180) with some bat speed still developing. Up-the-middle approach. Really good runner with base-stealing instincts. Can handle SS or 2B. .343/.375/.490 in 2021

Jayson Jones’ stock had already exploded this summer after playing in the 2021 MLB All-American game last month.

Now, it has gone through the roof.

The Braswell shortstop will be featured in yet another premier national event after being selected to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic. The game, which features some of the top prospects from around the country, will take place Sunday, Aug. 22, at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

In addition, Jones is also projected by MLB.com to be drafted in the Top 10 of the 2022 MLB draft. MLB.com predicted Jones to be selected eighth overall by the Colorado Rockies next year.

Mack's spin -

I have him as my 5th 3Bman.

 7-27-21 - Prospect Love Top 100 2022 Prospects -

43 Jared Jones C Walton

Immense raw power that was put on display at underclass events all summer. Big body and some stiffness likely forces Jones to 1B or a corner as a pro. Bat will be the carrying tool.

Mack's spin -

Huge prep numbers:

183 games, .416-15-176, 1.238 OPS

He enters my board as the 9th catcher, though he may wind up on the 1B list.

8-5-21 - Prospects Live

LHP Tristan Smith

There’s a reason why “This is unfair” and “I feel bad for these kids” were written down on my notes during this outing. It was the loudest outing of the week. Tristan Smith is one of the top lefties in the class for a reason and he showed why. He started off with three straight curveballs to Kaden Martin, two of them for strikes and one just off the plate. Martin, a left-handed hitter, then watched a 95 MPH fastball zip by and the rest is history. Smith struck out all six batters he faced with a lethal fastball/curveball combo that kept hitters off balance. The high-spin heater sat 92-94 MPH and touched 95 MPH with big life, but the curveball was the main star of the show. It sat 78-81 MPH and Smith landed the pitch for strikes with relative ease. Not to mention, he manipulated the shape of the pitch at will. He does have a change-up, but it was not utilized here. He’s a high follow in this class and could wind up in the first or second round come next July.

Mack's spin -

93-95 heater... 79-81 curve in the 2200-2600 rpm range.

Filthy.

Currently, my 4th LHP.

8-12-21 - Talking Chop - Georgia Prospects -

Diego Guevara, OF, Georgia Premier Academy -

A recent Miami commitment, Diego Guevara is a potential five tool outfielder from the Georgia Premier Academy with an impressive power and speed combination as well as a huge arm that makes him a prototypical right fielder. He doesn’t have as much experience at the big showcases as the other guys on this list, but the tools are more than enough to have him included with them.

Mack's spin -

First paper on him and too early to put up on my board.
