Box Score and Recap: Mets 8 Nationals 7 - 8/11/2021. Lineup: Brandon Nimmo CF 2 for 5, double, 2 runs scored; Jeff McNeil 2B 2 for 4, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI, 1 walk; Pete Alonso 1B 3 for 5, 2 doubles, 2 runs scored, 1 RBI; Dominic Smith LF 1 for 4, double, 1 RBI; Michael Conforto RF 2 for 4, 1 run scored, 1 RBI; J.D. Davis 3B 2 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored; Carlos Carrasco 1 inning, 4 runs – all earned, 4 hits, 1 HR, 1 walk; Rich Hill 3 innings, 3 runs – all earned, 4 hits, 3 walks, 4 Ks; Trevor May (W, 5-2) 1 inning, no runs, no hits, 1 K; Edwin Diaz (S, 24) 1 inning, no runs, no hits, 1 K;

NY Post: Rich Hill’s ‘start’ ends after three disappointing innings.  “Things went south in the top of the fifth inning. The first three Nationals batters all reached base, including Luis Garcia, who drove in two runs with a double into the gap. That was it for Hill. ‘Obviously, I just want to throw the ball better,’ Hill said. ‘Unfortunately, I didn’t do my job in the [fifth] inning. I need to try to make some improvements.’”

NY Post: Mets rally past Nationals for skid-snapping win.  “Brandon Drury continued to come through in the clutch as a pinch hitter, blooping a single past a drawn-in infield in the eighth inning to score Jonathan Villar to put the Mets ahead — capturing their first lead since last Wednesday against the Marlins.”

NY Post: Mets-Nationals rained out again, doubleheader on Thursday. “The teams plan to play a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 12:10 p.m., with the second game coming 30-40 minutes after the conclusion of game one.”

NY Post: Mets’ Francisco Lindor takes huge step in injury recovery. “The Mets shortstop took batting practice at Citi Field for the first time in his recovery. He also ran the bases and fielded ground balls as he continued to move closer to a potential rehab assignment.”

NY Post: Zack Scott’s dig at Mets players also bad look for organization. “Here’s a question of greater consequence: By going after the non-conforming slackers in his midst, didn’t Scott realize that he was calling into question his own leadership, and that of Cohen, team president Sandy Alderson and manager Luis Rojas?”

Andy Martino SNY.TV: Lots of nuance, and some ruffled feathers, in Mets acting GM Zack Scott’s comments. “According to clubhouse sources, this comment ruffled feathers. Perhaps not all feathers -- it’s hard to report on that many feathers, especially without locker room access -- but some. To players who have worked hard all season, overcome injuries to teammates or themselves, and spent most of the summer in first place, the reaction was (and we’re paraphrasing): Mediocre? Really? How about, like, tough and gutsy?”

Ed Kranepool becomes the Mets all-time home run leader for the young franchise when he goes deep off Don Wilson in the fourth inning of the team's 8-7 loss to Houston at the Astrodome. The 24 year-old first baseman passes Jim Hickman, who had 60 round-trippers for the Amazins from 1962-66.

2000

At Shea Stadium, the Giants get two unusual runs in the fourth inning as the Mets outfielder Benny Agbayani catches what he thinks is the third out and gives the ball to a kid in the stands. The mental lapse of not knowing there was only one out in the frame allows both runners on base to score, but the Mets will prevail, beating San Francisco, 3-2.

Move the fences in. Pete lost two HRs the last two days.

I liked Scott's comments and Andy Martino's reporting on the ruffled feathers.

While not perfect, I think Scott has done a good job as GM and should keep the job for next year.

Just need to get rid of Sandy.

Zack Scott works for Sandy, so I don't think he can fire his boss (unfortunately). That would be up to Steve Cohen.

The Josh Reddick signing is interesting. A .258 hitter would look like Ty Cobb on this team.
