RELEASED - IF - Ruben Tejada
The Mets have released shortstop Ruben Tejada after he cleared waivers, per a club announcement (via Mike Puma of the New York Post, on Twitter). New York will remain obligated for just under $500K of obligations to Tejada for the coming season, having previously avoided arbitration with him for a non-guaranteed $3MM.

I don't know I still think this is crazy. Some team is going to get a 26yr old solid middle infielder who doesn't strike out much, hits doubles, plays at least average defense at ss and 2B and is probably now more motivated then ever.
all money here probably...
As I said earlier, payback for screwing the Mets out of one more year of control. The question now is it Reynolds (hurting and thus far unimpressive) or Rivera or Campbell? Should be Rivera until Reynolds is healthy, but I'm betting the nod goes to Soup.
"Screwing the Mets"? Do you really think he somehow took advantage of a naive GM and convinced him to do something clearly not in the best interests of the team?
Did he do this via hypnosis, or injectable drugs?
He chose to ask for additional days of service time which made him a free agent a year earlier. That's in addition to his ridiculous salary. Payback's a bitch.
I can see Tejada having a pretty decent career elsewhere, like Oquendo or Scutero. But, I'd rather see Flores' bat get the playing time. Of course, there's the danger of injury and infield depth.
2.5 million might be used to plug other holes.
Good luck Ruben.
Let's play ball already!
I'm not sure whether Campbell is out of Options, but I hunch they decided to "trade" Tejada for Campbell----a RHB on the bench who can play some OF.
Legit MLB MIF'ers are harder to find than Eric Campbell---I strongly disagree with this move. Tejada had more value down the line...as a trade piece. He's more valuable in trade after a month or two than he is now---bad Move all around.
Money saver pure and simple
Money saver pure and simple
This should be a no brainer tj rivera has hit at every level give the local kid the shot
If purely a money saver, why not non-tender him in the first place? They just spent half a million on the guy for a few weeks in Florida.
