The Mets released a statement today, announcing
that field players Matt den Dekker, Jose Lobaton, Ty
Kelly, Luis Guillorme, and Gavin Cecchini,
and pitchers P.J. Conlon, A.J. Griffin, Drew Smith, Matt
Purke, and Corey Tayler were returns to
the minor league portion of the complex.
This leaves 15 pitchers in camp:
Starters:
Syndergaard, deGrom, Harvey, Matz, Wheler
Swing: Gsellman, Lugo
Pen: Familia, Ramos, Blevens, Swarzak, Seward,
Robles, Montero, Rhame
In addition, IF/OF Phillip Evans seems to be a valid candidate for a
fifth utility player on the 25-man squad.

I have an ode to Evans drafted up for tomorrow

The Mets have a decision to make. By this Saturday, they must:
• Put Jose Lobaton on the OD roster; or
• Release Jose Lobaton; or
• Pay Jose Lobaton a $100k retention bonus to remain in the minors, which comes with a June 1 opt-out.
It is not my $$, but I would pay the $100,00 option on Lobaton to hold him in the minors until June 1. Injuries could happen, and I'd like to see Nido play AAA for a while before promoting him to Queens
If they don't keep Lobaton maybe FA Josh Thole could platoon at Vegas.
With dD exiled, Evans should stay, at least until 4to returns.
What is it with you and reunions? Sometimes the ship has sailed...often 5 years too late :)
On the question of reunions, perhaps it's time to consider a going away party for Jose Reyes. With his two hits today he's UP to .179. Wouldn't they only be on the hook for a fraction of his salary?
Why are you so affected by GIGS? I prefer to keep Lobaton, but if he leaves we need a AAA backup. Nido should get most of the ABs there, so a veteran to platoon fits our needs.
As for Reyes, do you really believe ST stats mean anything?
