Mack – Some ‘Minor’ Observations: The Starters

Good morning.

Las Vegas –

Nabil Crismatt –

            Saturday -               5-IP, 6-H, 4-ER, 3-K, 2-BB, WIN (1-0), 7.20

Well… the best thing about this AAA outing is it’s over. I still wish the Mets would leave their starter chips in Binghamton and stack them up for next year’s move to Syracuse, but when was the last time anyone listened to me?

Harol Gonzalez –

            Saturday -               6-IP, CG, 4-H, 2-ER, 1-K, 2-BB, LOSS (0-1), 3.00

                                               Harol should be thrilled with a 3.00 PCL ERA.

Binghamton -         

            Nabil Crismatt –

                        Monday -                 5.2-IP, 5-H, 2-ER, 8-K, 2-BB, 3.58

This is as good as it seems it’s going to get out of a Crismatt outing. A sub-4 ERA with a bunch of strikeouts. It probably is enough for an SP5 someday.

Crismatt was promoted to AAA-Vegas on July 4th

                       

            Justin Dunn –                      7.2-IP, 2-H, 1-ER, 9-K, 2-BB, 2.41

This is Dunn’s 6^th great game in his last seven outings. Neat. And, more important, consistently beginning to settle in as a true ace.

Sunday: 5-IP, 6-H, 4-ER, 5-K, 3-BB, WIN (3-2),
       3.03

Not one of his best, but his team supported him through a bad fourth inning by bouncing back with five runs in the bottom of the 4th after Dunn gave away three runs in the top of that inning. 

            Joe Cavallaro -         

          

               Saturday (in Columbia) -     6-IP, 4-H, 2-ER, 7-K, 3-BB, WIN (8-2), 2.09

Eight wins should warrant a promotion, right? I look for one hear post haste.

            ***ALERT*** -

Called this one. On July 5th, Joe was promoted two levels to Binghamton.

Thursday (Bing) -         5-IP, 9-H, 5-ER, 5-K, 1-BB, 9.00

                                    Well, we’ve seen worse from someone that has jumped two levels, so we’ll give Cavillaro a couple more outings before we make judgement here.             

                               

St. Lucie:

            David Peterson –              

                        Thursday -                5-IP, 8-H, 6-ER, 3-K, 4-BB, .5.32

Just a horrible outing for an ace. Too many hits and, once again, a bunch of walks. Not good.

            Anthony Kay -  

                        Wednesday -           7.1-IP, 7-H, 2-ER, 4-K, 2-BB, WIN (1-0), 2.45

Kay’s first Lucy outing was also the longest of his pro career. It continues to prove that Kay is in line of a 2020 Mets rotation slot.

                         

            Harol Gonzalez –

                        Monday -                 6-IP, 3-H, 2-ER, HR, 4-K, 3-BB, WIN (1-6), 2.82

Nice. First win for my friend Harol. I still want to see him go deeper with an increase K/9, but Gonzalez continues to prove he is a future factor for this team.

Harol was promoted two levels to Vegas on July 4^th.

Brooklyn –

            Jaison Vilera –  

                 

                         Saturday -               2.1-IP, 2-H, 1-ER, 4-K, 4-BB, 1.46

A lot of wildness early earned Vilera the quick hook. No problem… ERA and K/9 ratio intact. Move on.

Thursday -             7-IP, 5-H, 2-ER, 8-K, 1-BB, 1.86

                                 An excellent outing with a strong K/9%. ERA still under 2.00.Bingo.

  Christian James -    

         

            Monday -                 3.2-IP, 6-H, 4-ER, 0-K, 3-BB, 2.75

Okay, so James has had better outings. If this is the worst he has this year, everything will be fine.

Saturday -               4-IP, 9-H, 2-ER, 2-K, 1-BB, 3.04

                                   Another so-so outing. I’m going to take the gree off his name for now.

           

Kingsport –

            ****Helium Alert****   

Joey Butto -

            Wednesday -                       5-IP, 4-H, 2-ER, 3-K, 3-BB, 1.15

Butto first earned his blue status when he pitched last year for the DSL-2 team (15-G, 8-starts, 1.44). This was the third start for the 20/yr. old this year and the first he had given up any runs.

GCL –

            Willy Tavares -          

        

                        Saturday -                5-IP, 4-H, 0-ER, 6-K, 2-BB, LOSS (1-1), 0.60

Tavares continues to impress. The 20-year old has now only given up one earned run in 15-IP this season. I expect him to end the season in Kingsport.

Sat 7-7 -                    7-IP, CG, 5-H, 2-ER, 9-K, 0-BB, WIN (2-1), 1.23

                                    Another impressive start. That’s now 25-Ks in 22-IP.

****Helium Alert****   

Ramon Guzman -   

           

Tuesday -                  6-IP, 4-H, 1-ER, 3-K, 2-BB, WIN (3-0), 1.93

                                                Strange case… was a successful reliever in the DSL last year… had a piss poor three 7.45-ERA DSL starts this year that for some reason earned him a ticket stateside, Now, the 21/yr. old has given up only three earned runs in 14-IP (3-ST)

            Felix Sosa –

                        Thursday -                5-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 4-K, 1-BB, WIN (3-0), 1.25

It’s strange how sometimes a pitcher develops. Here was a 19/yr. old founding last year as a reliever (11-G, 6.92). So this year they make him a starter on the DSL-1 team and he’s acing it after five starts. Go figure.

            Cesar Loaiza                        5-IP, 2-H, 0-R, 10-K, 1-BB, 1.05

The 19/yr. old has emerged as a possible blue prospect down the road. The first year converted reliever now has 20-Ks in 16 innings he has pitched in is three starts this season.
