As we head towards the 2020 MLB Draft, we detailing the last ten years of Mets drafts.
Today, we look at 2016.
The Philadelphia Phillies had the #1 pick and took Outfielder
Mickey
Moniak. The Cincinnati Reds took Third Baseman Nick Senzel
at #2, the Atlanta Braves selected Pitcher Ian
Anderson at #3, the Rockies took Pitcher Riley Pint at #4, and the Brewers
took Outfielder Corey
Ray at #5.
The Mets actually had two 1st round picks in 2016. They selected Justin Dunn
with the 19th overall pick and in the Compensation round took Anthony Kay
with the 31st overall pick which they received for losing Daniel
Murphy to the Nationals.
However, the big news of the 2016 draft for the Mets
happened in the 2nd round. For it was in
the 2nd round of 2016 that the Mets struck gold with Pete Alonso. That made 2016 a successful draft right there.
Also in 2016 they were able to get two pitchers that helped
Brooklyn win a championship last year, Matt
Cleveland in the 12th Round and Garrison
Bryant in the 36th round.
Carlos
Cortes in round 20 and Branden
Fryman in round 37 both did not sign but the Mets drafted them in later
years and were able to sign them.
The full Mets list is below.

Pete, Kay, and Dunn make this a great draft. Period.
I liked the Chris Viall pick, but control was not his thing, and maybe Garrison Bryant will climb the ladder still.
But after the Big 3 hits, not good at all. I will leave it at that.
An All-star in the second round. That is hard to beat.
I mourn that Blake Tiberi isn't a better prospect. Just seems like one of those great baseball names to me.
Mike, my favorite Mets prospect name was Ronald MacDonald who played in the Mets minors in the late 70's.
