2018 Draft Recap

As we head towards the 2020 MLB Draft, we are going to detail the last ten years of Mets drafts.  Today, we look at 2018.

If the story of the Mets 2017 draft is still to be told, the story of the 2018 draft is that it got traded away.  Three of the Mets top 4 2018 pick have been traded starting with their #1 pick -#6 overall, Jarred Kelenic.  Even though the Mets are short on Outfield prospects, they dealt Jarred as part of the Edwin Diaz/Robinson Cano trade.   Jarred was recently ranked the 11th best prospect in all of Baseball.

They also traded their number two 2018 pick, Pitcher Simeon Woods-Richardson, as part of the Marcus Stroman trade and their 4th pick, Pitcher Adam Hill, as part of the Keon Broxton trade.

That leaves #3 pick Carlos Cortes, #5 pick Relief Pitcher Ryley Gilliam, #7 Pick Pitcher Kevin Smith, and #8 pick Tylor Megill.

After the Yankees drafted Jake Mangum, in 2017 only to not sign him, the Mets drafted Jake in the Round 32: #950 and he did not sign with them wither in 2018.

The full Mets list is below.

The Top 5 MLB 2018 picks:

Round 1: #1 Casey Mize, Tigers, Pitcher; #2 Joey Bart, Giants, Catcher; #3 Alec Bohm, Phillies, 3B; #4 Nick Madrigal, White Sox, SS; #5 Jonathan India, Reds, 3B.

As Mack knows, Tylor Megill alone made this a great draft :)

Wouldn't it be something if the top 3 names from this draft longer terms are Kelenic, Richardson, and Hill?

He is still listed on Brooklyn's Roster on their website but his Baseball Reference page does not list a team affiliation.

MiLB still has him on Brooklyn as well with the last transaction being that he was taken off the DL in September 2019.
