Post: Steve Cohen’s Mets ‘lifeline’ to hurting Citi Field employees. “Cohen
worked out a deal with the three unions that represent Citi Field seasonal
employees such as food service workers, janitors and security guards that if he
is approved to become Mets owner, he would pay each $500 a month this offseason
to financially assist those who did not work a single game amid the pandemic in
2020…The deal would cover 1,140 workers over five months, so basically $2,500
per person between November and Opening Day. That is a $2.85 million commitment...”

It takes hubris to write an article that pete should be traded. To ASK whether he should be traded is legit.
I wondered if Amed Rosario could turn into Lindor Lite in 2020. Instead he turned into Ruben Tejada.
Amed has all the tools. I just don't think he is a shortstop. I would be hesitant to put him in CF. I would put him at 2B or LF and let him concentrate on his hitting and running. He made around 20 errors a year in the minors at short - not sure why the Mets thought he'd be different when he came to the majors.
Gimenez is my shortstop I would save the $ for pitching, catcher, or CF but Amed has way to much talent without first seeing what he can do at another position.
Tom, you say that the Mets should find an Arozarena, but you know how the Rays got him? They traded their top lefty pitching prospect for him. The article about trading Pete has to do with finding rotation help and using a player that even when he had 53 homeruns, still only hit .256 and struck out a lot with shaky defense. How do you get a talent if you won’t even part with some talent? John gave an idea on getting a top very young arm in Zach Plesac and that won’t come easy. The guy had a 2.1 fWAR this year despite the short season and being sent to the minors because he broke protocol! I would be thrilled to get Plesac for just Alonso.
John, when Derek Jeter came up, he sucked at defense but he worked his tail off. It bothers me that Mets players don’t improve in the majors. I love Wilmer Flores, but there was a guy that needed to work his tail off to improve on defense and we never saw an improvement. Rosario is the next example. Just happy to be here won’t work in MLB and those players should probably be sent packing. Also, I noticed one particular play this year where Rosario didn’t even move until the ball was passed the mound. It was only one play, but it appears that he lacks instinct and reflexes to play SS or even third base, to me. He really needs to go to the grass, but he doesn’t have the pop for it.

On Alonso - when you have two good players that play the same position, it makes sense to trade one for a need like starting pitching, CF, etc. The best time to trade him was last year - but he still has prime value. Mets need a plan and to figure out how they want to build a team. Offense first - Defense first - or a mix. Once they figure out how they want to go they an figure out which one to trade.
Same with Amed and Gimenez. I go with Gimenez as defense up the middle is the most important.
Defense sure is helping the Rays (see above) and helped the 1969 Mets (see Agee catches above).
