SNY.tv: Analyzing what was broken for 2020 Mets and fixing it for 2021: Center field Brandon Nimmo cannot be the center fielder in 2021. Enter George Springer or Jackie Bradley Jr.?  “Nimmo -- who struggled badly when it came to his first step/breaks on fly balls and the routes he took -- was worth -5 DRS (Defensive Runs Saved) in just 44 games this past season. Extrapolate that to a full season and you get a player who is unplayable in center field.”

Born on this date:

Centerfield Maz: Jerry Grote: New York Mets Hall of Fame Catcher (Part One 1966-1969).

National Pastime.com:

2000

Benny Agbayani's 13th inning home run ends the longest LDS game ever played, 5 hours and 22 minutes. The dramatic round-tripper by the Mets outfielder, who was voted the 36th greatest athlete from Hawaii by Sports Illustrated, gives New York a 3-2 victory and a 2-1 series advantage over the Giants.

2006

The Mets defeat Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, 9-5, to complete a three-game sweep in the NLDS. The Dodgers have won only one postseason game in 13 attempts since beating the A's in the 1988 World Series.

I think all those released players were DSL guys. Huge churn in that group every year.

Travis d'Arnaud proves again that BVW is able to make huge unforced errors.

Despite Stanton's continuing explosion, the Rays have all that pitching to shut down good offenses, as the Mets recently learned.

Sammy Drake? Never hoid o' him.

Thanks Tom. My understanding was that all roster and personnel moves were frozen until the sale was completed. So this is interesting nonetheless.

Tom

They were and none were surprises.

Mack, I still remember that slugger Vicente Lupo from the DSL back in 2012, just tore up the DSL...but was a strikeout machine afterwards in the states. 342 Ks in 793 at bats post-DSL. In much tougher baseball competition.

DSL is a training ground for the few rare elites like Gimenez and Rosario to grow in. All the other guys are like sparring partners in gyms.

The equivilent of DSL baseball in hmthe States would be sandlot leagues.
