REED GARRETT UPGRADE
Who says you can’t teach old dogs new tricks?
Garrett has been poor in recent years’ MLB outings. Hittable, very, and few Ks. ERA above 6 in 44 total career MLB innings pre-2024.
Well, it’s 2024 now, and the 31 year old is throwing a wicked assortment.
His first spring training outing in 2024? Poor.
Since then, spring, minors, and Mets? Totally brilliant, thanks for asking.
No runs in 14 2/3 innings, and 27 Ks. And an insane 17 Ks in 8.2 IP with the Mets, including 6 in two innings last night.
He’s morphed into…Edwin Diaz?
Amazin’. Simply Amazin’.

Chris Suero and Mookie Betts both went 5 for 5 on the same night. Now that’s something.
Tom your post should be intitled The Twilight Zone as the only thing missing is Rod Serling as we've surely reached another dimension. I had to reread it because like the recent eclipse (and we didn't need special sunglasses) it only happens very rarely and to beat the quality pitchers we're beating AND scoring late AND a killer BP pinch me I must be dreaming. The Mark thing is a head scratcher for sure but we're
winning so shutup Gary and enjoy the ride.
GARY, if Baty is in need of IL, I hope not, then do they call up RBI per game Vientos? Vientos has done that with mostly Acuna, Yolmer Sanchez, and Gamel hitting ahead of him. Only Gamel has been hitting decently.
Vientos if called up has no more options left? No, he has one left.
I have been very impressed with the way Garrett (and the rest of the pen) has pitched so far. I just hope they don't get worn out because the starters can't seem to give us more than 5 innings. Quintana throwing full counts to 2/3 of the batters is unacceptable - and it doesn't seem to be just a "bad day".
We need Quintana to be John Tudor 1985
I'll mention it again we need a pitcher say Lucchesi who could pitch 3 or 4 innings in relief like twice a week to take the load off the BP. 4 or 5 pitching from the BP a night is a recipe for a disaster CHANGE IT! Good God they took that kid out last night thank you very much who was pitching as good a game as I've seen in quite awhile after what 58 pitches just crazy.
We've GOT a pitcher who can go 3 or 4, a few times a week if necessary. But unless our SPs take a sudden prolonged downturn, we shouldn't need to have that so often.
His name is Garrett, and I'm surprised Tom didn't mention that he currently leads the team in Ws!
Yes, we have 10 Ws, with 9 pitchers sharing them.
Whoda thunk it?
