Tom Brennan: 8:08 PM, Citifield, Tonight

Tonight should be a chilly one at a packed Citi Field.

41 degrees this morning on Long Island.

51 degrees at game time, 48 at 10 PM.

Fans will be generating thermal heat at the ballpark, though.

Tonight should be a good matchup for the Mets.

Luis Severino sports a 7-2, 2.96 season record with just 9 HRs allowed in 97 innings.

You WANT him pitching at home in the pitching-comfy confines.

His opponent, Walker Buehler, has been thru the surgery, and in his return, just 1-6, 5.38 in 76 regular season innings with a 1.55 WHIP, and 0-1, 10.80 in the post season with no Ks in 5 IP.

He is apparently not the same guy as the one who entered this season with a career record of 46-16.

The Dodgers preferred to go with Ferris Buehler, but he has the day off.

I'm picking the Mets to win Game 3.

I expect to see Jeff McNeil in the line up, too.

How about you?

ARIZONA BLUES

Last year, I noticed that the team the Mets had its players on was the lowest scoring squad.

Last night, the 6 teams scored 19, 15, 9, 6, 4, and 2.

Guess whose team scored the 2?

Gilbert homered but the 3 Mets hitters, Drew, Jett, and Reimer, were just 1 for 9 and 2 walks.  Me?  I'd prefer 3 for 9 and no walks.

Through 6 games, the Scottsdale 1000 Ply Rolls (otherwise known as Scorpions) are last in scoring and sport a 7.27 ERA.

But watch out for Scorpions.  They can be nasty little suckers.

I am shocked about McNeil. Not sure how he plays two full games in the field in the AFL, but does not start, unless he has hit Ferris very poorly in his career. Lingering pain, maybe? I would, if it is legal, be calling in some upper minors-level journeymen pitchers to throw to him, if it is a matter of sharpness.

Why wouldn't it be legal?? Is there some rule qualifying batting practice pitchers?
We could even use 1 or 2 of our rusty SPs to throw to him.

But in any case, whether or not I understand or agree with some decisions, I fully trust David and Mendy to make them. They haven't let us down so far.

Bill, I only bring that up in the narrow chance there is some rule that would preclude it. Otherwise, if McNeil is deemed not sharp enough, get him 10 "at bats" a day against journeymen not on the roster.

My guess is McNeil isn't 100%
