...things aren't always peaches and cream for other teams.
Our Catcher Hit Better Than Their Catcher
Sure, some Mets players struggled in the playoffs...
But they did great overall this year.
We can quibble about their "shortcomings"...
As if no other team experiences such things.
But look at the Yankees in the playoffs through game 1 Friday night:
Aaron Judge? The slugger is just 6 for 36, 2 HRs, 6 RBIs, 16 Ks.
- He will be starring in a new film, "The Return of Mr. May".
- Alonso meanwhile was .273/.431/.568.
Jazz Chisolm? The 3B is 7 for 39, 1 RBI, 12 Ks, 2 walks.
- No razzamatazz for Jazz.
- Mets 3B Mark Vientos was .327 with 5 HRs and 14 RBIs.
Austin Wells? Theur catcher is just 4 for 38, with 17 Ks.
- He is currently watching Tomas Nido hitting instruction videos.
- Francisco Alvarez hit .256.
Take away that Soto guy with his .457 OBP and they'd be nowhere, man.
So...
For a Mets player to not excel in post season play is not unusual.
According to Tom Jones.

A great point and elsewhere I read about the mysterious Mr. Maton who was a 2.51 ERA pitcher (and wouldn't have even been that high if he hadn't give up a pair of September 30th runs) before imploding in October. His option seems high at $7.75 million but if they could negotiate a discount he might be worth a return engagement.
A friend of mine who pitched some minors ball a while ago thought Maton was very unimpressive in October and doesn’t want him…but the Mets need many arms. We will see.
After 0-4 tonight, Judge is 6 for 40 with 19 Ks. CUT HIM!
I agree with your friend Tom. Why isn’t anyone talking our minor leaguers? Orze got killed one appearance for the Mets, then shut them down his second one. Was great all year in Syracuse after a nightmare April.
Is Lavender coming back? No one wants Drew Smith or Reid-Foley?
Gus, I was on the Orze bandwagon many times. I was very puzzled that he was not used more. He hit 95, with that split finger(?) that had him rack up tons of Ks. I watched Treinen last night and he seemed to be hitting 95. Lavender I would think could be back in August, if all goes well. It seems, on the other hand, that Mauricio's recovery is not going nearly as quickly as hoped.
Drew Smith apparently wants a 2 year deal, the first of which will be rehab. I'm not sure the Mets bite, as they can't afford to have "pay something for nothing" players in 2025 if the decide to cap spending at $280 million. Foley's middle two initials seem to be IL.
Proud of our guys and the way they performed this year. Not only did we get to the NLCS, but we also swept those Yanks that are in the series.
If we don't get Soto whats plan B? I like George Michaels have Faith the Faith the Faith in Mr. Sterns and to stay in the music realm Sade would agree he's a Smooth Operator so stay the course young man. Paul I agree but to recapture the magic from year to year is almost impossible and for sure we had it last year. Now the upside is we hopefully build a stong enough team to finish in the top 3 to avoid the gruelling schedule that burned out the pitching staff at the end....time will tell.
Gary, good point. We won well in 1969, not 1970…1973, but not1974….1986 but not 1987….2015 but not 2016.
