#82                 Mason White                      SS, Arizona

21/years old                       5' 11"             176

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 50 | Arm: 45 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

White attended Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, Arizona, and stayed put for college ball, heading to play for the Arizona Wildcats. He earned freshman all-American recognition from Collegiate Baseball in 2023 after finishing with a .989 OPS in 53 games. The power showed up even more as a sophomore as he picked up all-Pac 12 honors with 19 homers and a .995 OPS. Two rough summers in the Cape Cod League (.184/.284/.316 combined) has tempered enthusiasm a little bit.

White does offer legitimate pop from the left side of the plate despite being a touch undersized at 5-foot-11. He often sells out for power too much, swinging uphill at everything, which led to very high swing-and-miss rates (31 percent overall in 2024 with a 30.5 strikeout rate). He does offset the K’s with a fair number of walks and did make some adjustments to tone down his swing a bit this fall.

A decent athlete, White has average speed, and while he’s coach Chip Hale’s choice to play shortstop for the Wildcats, most see a move to second base because his arm is a touch short for the premium position. He should be a more-than-capable defender at the keystone and could develop into a power-first regular if he tones down the swing-and-miss.

51. Mason White – 2B

HT/WT: 5’11/176 | Bat/Throw: L/R | School: Arizona | Age: 21.9

Despite White’s shorter stature, he is one of the more powerful bats in this draft class.

There’s quite a bit ongoing during his load, but White’s hands are explosively quick and he launches the barrel through the zone at insane speed, allowing him to tap into legitimate plus raw power to all fields.

There’s legitimately feel to lift the baseball at a consistent rate, posting a fly ball rate of 42%. There are questions about the pure contact skills, though. He added more aggression to his approach in 2024 and began chasing more frequently, plus his whiff rate did jump up slightly.

At best, this is a bat with a 40-hit tool and 55 or better power. White’s range is limited due to his fringe-average speed and choppy footwork in the dirt, which means his likely home will be second base moving forward.

MASON WHITE      2B       ARIZONA

Matt Arnold is the new General Manager of the Brewers, and the 2024 Draft was uncharacteristic of the Brewers' normal hauls. I don’t know what to expect from Milwaukee in 2025, so I’ll use the best available data here.

Late in the 2024 college season, Mason White rose into first-round consideration for the 2025 class. White is a projectable 5-11, 176-pound middle infielder with, pound for pound, the most present power in the class. It is bat speed, with high exit velo creating massive power. White has a large leg kick with big coil to create the power, but some wonder if he sacrifices bat-to-ball to create the power. White is a career .309 average, .992 OPS hitter, and hit 19 home runs in 2024.
