LAST GAME:
Ryan Coultas provided the strongest outing to
date for a B-Met starter going seven innings, while allowing
just one run on four hits in Binghamton’s 4-1 win over Portland.
It was a scoreless game going into the home portion of
the fifth when the B-Mets struck for an unearned run against
Sea Dogs’ starter Felix Doubront, who took the loss, on a Josh
Thole sacrifice fly to center. With a 1-0 lead, Ruben Tejada
knocked in another run in the sixth with a bases-loaded sacrifice
fly to right. Then in the eighth, the B-Mets got a two-run
triple from Emmanuel Garcia to provide the final punch. Julio
De La Cruz pitched the final two innings scoreless for his first
save.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:
RHP Fernando Nieve will
make his third start of the season tonight. He has been on
limited pitch counts to build up his endurance in his past two
outings, throwing 3.2 innings no-hit innings May 1 before
giving up three straight hits, which knocked him out of the
game with a 5-2 lead in the fourth against New Hampshire. He
is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 8 innings. Nieve was picked off the
waiver wire by the Mets in April from Houston where he made
11 appearances in the Major League’s for the Astros in 2008.

considered the seventh best prospect in the Boston organization
by Baseball America.

D.J. Wabick’s seventh inning error
in left field broke a string of 53 consecutive innings of errorless
play by the Binghamton position players. Through 23

night’s 4-1 win over Portland, Tejada extended his team-high
on-base streak to 15 games. During this 15-game stretch,
Tejada has hit .292 with an on-base percentage of .417.
DON’T TELL WABICK THE BASES ARE EMPTY!:
B-Met outfielder

men in scoring position, Wabick is hitting .435 (10-23) with
15 RBI, but with the bases empty he is hitting .231 (6-26). 11
of Wabick’s RBI have come in seven starts against Portland.
