Herd Game Notes

TODAY’S GAME:

This afternoon, the Buffalo Bisons host the Louisville Bats (Cincinnati Reds) for the second and third games a four-game series from Coca-Cola Field (Game 1 - 1:05 p.m.). After a rainout on Thursday, the teams tried to play two last night. However, after the Bats one the first game, 4-3, the second game had to be postponed because of rain. After Sunday, the Bisons will travel to Lehigh Valley for a four-game series against the IronPigs.

LET’S PLAY TWO:

The Bisons will try again to play their first doubleheader of the season. The Herd had one win and three splits in seven twinbills last year. The one sweep came almost a year ago today, May 4 against the Charlotte Knights (6-4, 1-0).

NEW SLUGGER:

In just his second game with the team, INF Wily Mo Pena showed the powerful impact he can have in the Herd’s lineup. The slugger hit a monster three-run opposite field homerun in the 5th inning yesterday. Pena now has three hits in his first eight Bisons at-bats.

HOT BAT:

OF Jesus Feliciano had two more hits yesterday and now has five hits in his last eight at-bats. Feliciano’s team-high average now sits at .297. His 19 total hits and five multi-hit games are second only to OF Fernando Martinez (20 hits, 7 multi-hit games) on the team.

THE RIGHT REY:

INF Argenis Reyes is in the midst of a nice stretch at the plate. He went 2-2 in last night’s game and has now hit in three straight (.500, 5-10). Reyes has reached base in 12 of the 14 games he’s played in and leads the team with a .392 on-base percentage. He’s also second on the club in average (.279) and walks (8).

CLOSE CALLS:

The Bisons lost by one run for the seventh time this year. Six of those one-run losses have come at Coca-Cola Field. In fact, 10 of the team’s 17 losses have been by two runs or less.

NIESE’S OUTING:

LHP Jonathon Niese had his best outing as a Bison last night. The southpaw allowed just one run on three hits in six innings of work. His eight strikeouts were just one shy of a team-high set by LHP Casey Fossum (4/17). In his six innings, Niese allowed just four more than the minimum.
