LAST GAME:
For the second time this season, the B-Mets
were on the winning end of a rain-shortened contest, knocking
off New Hampshire 8-2 in six innings Friday night. Binghamton
got out to an early 5-0 lead and didn’t look back. Lucas Duda
went 2-4 with 3 RBI, including a triple to lead a 10-hit attack
from the B-Met hitters. Three other men tallied two-hit days
including Emmanuel Garcia, Salvador Paniagua and Josh
Petersen. Fisher Cats starter Luis Perez was knocked around
for five runs on six hits and three walks in 3.2 innings. Fernando
Nieve made the start for Binghamton going 3.2 innings
giving up two runs in a no-decision. Eric Brown picked up his
second win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
STARTING PITCHING MATCHUP:
LHP Mike Antonini will make
his fifth start of the year this afternoon looking for his fourth
straight win. Antonini went a season-high six innings at New
Hampshire in his last start, giving up three runs on six hits to
pick up the win. For the season, he is 3-0 with a 4.35 ERA in
20.2 innings. Antonini made eight starts for Binghamton last
season going 1-3 with a 3.74 ERA. He was drafted in the 18th
round of the 2007 draft out of Georgia College & State University.
Fresh up from Dunedin (High-A), RHP Brandon Magee will
make his first start for the Fisher Cats today. In four starts for
Dunedin, Magee had recorded a 2-2 with a 4.26 ERA in 19
innings before being called up to AA April 29. In 2008, Magee
was a member of the New Hampshire starting rotation. He
went 7-13 with a 4.75 ERA in 28 starts for the Fisher Cats last
season. Last year he led the Eastern League in losses (13),
complete games (3) and runs (95). Magee was selected in the
fourth round of the 2006 draft out of Bradley University.
FINISHING STRONG:
With Thursday’s 8-3 win in the series
finale at Portland, Binghamton moved to 6-0 for the year in
the final game of series, respectively.
TIRELESS THOLE:
B-Mets catcher Josh Thole strung together
three consecutive multi-hit games in the three-game series at
Portland, going 6-13 in the series with three doubles and an
RBI. Thole has eight multi-hit games this season and has hits
in all but two of his 14 starts. He sits one point behind Portland’s
Jorge Jimenez for first place in batting average in the
Eastern League at .383.
RUNS, RUNS, RUNS:
The first 15 games didn’t see much run
scoring for Binghamton, scoring more than five runs just once
with an average of 3.9 runs per game. However, in the last
four games, the B-Mets have scored eight runs three times
and are averaging 6.5 runs per game.
