Mack March Mock
• Remember… this will change right up to the draft.
• One caveat. We just don’t get enough quality infomation on high school seniors and most of the accurate stats are behind subscripton walls.
• Also, I make every one of my picks based on my opinion of the “best man available”. I don’t care if a team has three great shortstop prospects. If the next guy on my list is a SS, then he’s picked and it’s the team to figure out who goes all the way and who gets traded.
• That being said:
1. Houston – RHSP – Kevin Gausman – The recent injury to Giolito has Gausman and Appel fighting it out for the first pick. My nod goes to Kevin who has been the most consistent throughout the first third of the season.
2. Minnesota – RHSP – Mark Appel – I say tomato, you say tomato. Needless to say, both these pitchers will be gone in the first three picks, latest.
3. Seattle – OF – Byron Buxton – The consensus pick for best everyday player goes to Buxton who could be Houston’s pic as well. You have to be very talented to be picked ahead of Zunino.
4. Baltimore – RHSP Lucas Giolito – There simply is too much talent here to let him drop any further in this draft. He should be throwing by the time this pick comes around.
5. Kansas City – C – Mike Zunino - Just an absolute beast who I still think projects out as a corner outfielder.
6. Cubs – RHSP – Kyle Zimmer – Zimmer has been inconsistent, but some experts think he has the most talent of any RHP in the draft.
7. San Diego – SS – Deven Morreno - This is one of the two plus shortstops in this draft.
8. Pittsburgh – OF – Victor Roache – His injury isn’t career threatening so he remains a top ten pick.
9. Florida – C – Peter O’Brien – It’s going to be very hard for the Marlins to pass on local favorite O’Brien, out of Miami.
10. Colorado – SS – Carlos Correa – This is the other plus shortstop.
11. Oakland – C – Stryker Trahan – Top high school catcher in the draft.
12. Mets – OF – Courtney Hawkins – big speedy bat who throws 91.
13. CWS - RHSP Walker Weickel – big high school arm that sits at 93.
14. Cincinnati – LHSP Hunter Virant – 6-3 H.S. lefty that sits at 93
15. Cleveland – SS Kenny Diekroeger – plus speed and bat that projects to remain at short.
16. Washington – 3B Trey Williams – pure raw power makes him project as a future power bat
17. Toronto – RHSP Michael Wacha – premier starter for Texas A and M this season.
18. LAD – OF David Dahl – many project him as high as Roache.
19. St. Louis – 3B Joey Gallo – throws 95, projects as both a third baseman and a pitcher.
20. San Francisco – 3B Rio Ruiz – excellent high school bat with pop to all fields
21. Atlanta - RHSP Lance McCullers Jr. – has dropped lately because others have excelled.
22. Toronto – SS Gavin Cecchini – another excellent middle infielder with skills
23. St. Louis – OF Nick Williams – excellent athlete with projectable power bat
24. Boston – LHSP Matt Smoral – 6-8 lefty throwing 94… yikes!
25. Tampa – RHSP Marcus Stroman – may be the next under six foot starter in the Bigs.
26. Arizona – OF Tyler Naquin – hitting .446/.506/.554 for Texas A and M.
27. Milwaukee – OF Albert Almora – another projectable high school outielder
28. Milwaukee – LHP Brian Johnson – has dropped from a top 10 pick on most mocks
29. Texas – RHSP Michael Roth – The conversion to a starter seems to be complete… and successful.
30. NYY – RHSP Chris Beck – Beck’s season has been a dissapoitment so far, but he’s too talented to fall any further.
31. Boston – RHP Taylor Cherry – big 6-9 H.S. righty that sits at 94
32. Minnesota – RHSP Kayden Porter – 6-5 right handed high schooler clocked at 95
33. San Diego – 3B Stephen Piscotty – some scouts feel this will be the first third baseman picked in the draft
34. Oakland – 3B Richie Shaffer – having an outstanding year for Clemson
35. Mets – Mets – C Alex Bregman - also plays 2B and SS.

Max Fried? Did something happen to him while I was napping?
McCullers and Diekroeger are there and the Mets go Hawkins? Interesting...
Max Fried, McCullers, either of the Williams'...not a huge fan of Diekroeger. What about Dahl? He's one of my favorites in this class.
Not questioning the pick though..I actually like it a lot. Hawkins is a potential 30-30 guy if all goes well. Love the reach for him here but I would take Fried for sure and have to consider Dahl, Trey Williams, and McCullers as well.
Mack--Zimmer's flown up the draft boards. Is it because of that crazy good game he had a couple weeks ago?
S.G. - re: Zimmer - yes, similar to the Stroman rise
FYI - McCullers' seasonal ERA - 0.00
The Brewers don't need another mid-rotation starter in Johnson. They already have a plethora of mid-rotation starters.
