Craig Brown - I May Be Wrong But

When the Mets signed Kyle Farnsworth, they had to know that they would probably cut him before May 15, when a clause in his contract guaranteed him another 750k...Another nickle-smart and dollar stupid decision from this organization...I'm all for the Mets being fiscally responsible, but agents and players all over baseball see this shit, and chaulk it up as one more reason not to play for New Yorks "other" team...

Brandon Nimmo is my favorite Mets prospect...so I was really excited to see him get off to such a great start...But the kid has 9 extra base hits in 182 AB's...He still has a long way to go... Terry Collins is the worst Manager in baseball...Why in the world did they call up Wilmer Flores just to have him sit on the bench in favor of Ruben Tejada...I mean, Seriously!! Ruben Tejada!! I'm not convinced that Wilmer is a shortstop...but why call him up if he's not going to play??? No Manager in baseball is more detrimental to young players that Collins...Guys like D'Arnaud, Lagares, and Flores should be playing every day...and not at the bottom of the lineup card...

The Mets 2015 rotation battle will be nothing short of fascinating...Matt Harvey, Bartolo Colon, Jon Niese, Dillon Gee, Zack Wheeler, Rafael Montero, Jake Degrom, and Noah Syndergaard, are all potentially viable MLB starters... and lets not forget Jeremy Hefner, who will be returning from TJS, and seemed to have "figured it out" prior to his injury. Thats 9 guys for 5 spots...Something has got to give here...I can't wait to see how it plays out...

I know that no one wants to read about Stephen Drew anymore...Myself included. But I think its time to put this shortstop drama to an end and sign him after the draft in June...What if the Mets are unable to sign one of the 2015 free agent shortstops? Ramirez will likely re-sign with LA, and Jimmy Rollins has a vesting option in Philly...That leaves Asdrubal Cabrera, and JJ Hardy...both of which are possibilities, but lets not forget that the Yankees will be shortstop-shopping as well...I just don't want to run the risk of hearing these words on opening day 2015..."Batting Eighth, and playing shortstop, RUBEN TEJADA....

I've never understood the relationship between Beat Reporter and Sports Franchise...Sports teams behave as if they have no choice but to cater to these (mostly) rotten human beings...What the teams recieve in return is mostly snarky, negative, headline-centric press, that doesn't seem to have much of a benefit anymore...I just think that the time has passed when sports teams "need" these guys...If this was my team,a guy like Mike Puma would no longer be welcome in the clubhouse...If the daily news wants to assign a different reporter to the Mets, that would be fine, but if not...that would be fine too. Nobody reads the paper anymore anyway...

Totally disagree on Farnsworth. That guy is shot and won't help us this here. He would do more damage than anything. Agree with you bigtime on Mike Puma. F him

I'm extremely confused by this team......
Their perceived star pitchers, harvey wheeler thor, all stay in aaa to 'get a little more seasoning' to make sure they ready to go right at it, day one. Meanwhile, hitters like Lagares and Flores (and to a lesser extent, kirk, satin and now Campbell) get to come up, sit, play, sit, sit, play and whatever they do they do, oh well. ....
Only young hitter getting a chance is tda, and he continues (when healthy obviously ) to have the pleasure of getting his support behind him in lineup of Tejada or the pitcher. Great development there.

Flores may be worse on D than Ruben, but his bat will help TDA...play Wilmer until someone better comes along.

Tejada is a powerless .200 hitter in 2013 and 2014. We cannot afford that in the line up. Period.

The pitching surplus will be a dandy to sort out

One thing about infield defense and the insertion of weak links like Flores.

Infielders NOW are only playing normally defined positions around half the time. The whole world has the shift on and your shortstop is now on the other side of second and your third baseman is turning the double play at second.

If this continues, it will be critical to have your best infield defenders in the field.

When I talked to Wally Backman last night I said there was a growing frustration with the in-game decision making of Mr. Collins. Wally wisely chose NOT to comment about that but his smile and the twinkle in his eyes told me he understands.

On the other side, it's easy to sit back and listen to a beat reporter (hey... that's you!) throw that question out and just sit back, smile, and twinkle.

Trust me, it's a lot harder if Wally ever got TC's job. He also would be questioned every day on his decisions.

No one questions what a manager does in the minors. They always have the built in excuse that they are teaching someone something.

I am not a big TC fan, but I don't think Wally would be the answer either. Too much emotion.

Am I the crazy one for suggesting that Wally manage the mets, and Doc, yes, Doc Gooden be pitching coach? Never forget doc visit to stadium, sitting behind home plate, and knowing EVERYTHING right or wrong going on on that mound.

Ernest -

We're going to have to wait out the Doctor's decisions, but I expect Frank Viola to take over the pitching coach job as early as next season.

Collins overmanaging the bullpen and desire not to let lagares play boggles my mind. The Young boys are not the answer, i like chris more then eric bc of potential but neither one of them should be in there over lagares.

Honestly, backman shouldnt be managing the mets, the mets need a guy who isnt concerned about losing his job. And well backman will impload quickly in a mlb setting. good guy, fun player, not a great fit. and coach and player are very different skill sets.

To me, the Manager is a spot that offers a ton of value to a baseball team...Even the highest paid Managers get paid right around what the Mets are paying Chris Young...Theres no doubt in my mind, that a Manager like Buck Showalter would add more wins to this team than Chris Young...

Personally, I think they should call Lou Piniella, and offer to make him the highest paid Manager in baseball...

Bob--

Don't get me wrong...i'm not saying that Farnsworth had a ton of value...i'm just saying it was bush leauge to cut him the day before the clause kicked in...if the Mets want to sign Free agents without having to pay 15% more than the rest of the league...then they need to stop running this team like this is the pioneer league...
