Tampa Bay 10 - St. Lucie 5
The Tampa Yankees cruised to a 10-5 win over the St. Lucie Mets on a rain filled night at Tradition Field on Thursday.
Eric Jagielo blasted two home runs off of Domingo Tapia, including a grand slam that put the Yankees up 7-0 with two outs in the fifth.
After Tapia walked the next hitter, the rains came and delayed the game for over an hour and a half. The start of the game had already been pushed back 55 minutes due to inclement weather.
Play in the fifth resumed at 10:45 p.m. and the Mets tried to put together a rally. They scored thee in the seventh off of Stefan Lopez and added another in the eighth when Dilson Herrera scored on Nick Rumbelow’s wild pitch to make it 8-5.
However, the Yankees pulled away by belting a pair of RBI doubles in the ninth against Beck Wheeler.
Tapia gave up seven runs and 10 hits in 4 2/3 innings. The Yankees clubbed three home runs off of him.
Jagielo now has nine home runs on the season and is the active leader in the Florida State League in that department.
Yankees starter Rafael De Paula tossed four scoreless innings in a no decision.
Brandon Nimmo went 2 for 3 with an RBI triple and two walks for the Mets. - team press release
